STILL WONDER FULL
A Velocity Co-Production

"STILL WONDER FULL" is an evening-length solo performance by Seattle artist and performer, Britt Karhoff. Karhoff utilizes destructive independence, colorful party decorations and story fragments to reflect on the complexity and spectacle of loss. A talented team of designers and collaborators come together with stark and evocative lighting, interactive sets, and sound that weaves together with her original writing.
An early version of this project was presented at On the Boards' NW New Works Festival in 2016. "STILL WONDER FULL" premiered at Base in June 2018 in Seattle and was a part of the Risk/Reward Festival in July 2018.

After a momentous winter campaign with over 350 donors, we are excited this year to celebrate the vibrancy and resiliency of Seattle dance. Come for the performances, stay for the raise the paddle and the dance party. Like last year, we'll have a price tier for artists AND a giveaway for 10 free tickets for local dance artists.
This year our spring bash celebrates the thriving dance community right here on the 47th parallel: we'll have performances from Seattle artists, local food and drink, and a chance to come together to toast the work that blossoms here. So mark your calendars for a refulgent celebration of the resiliency and vibrancy of Seattle dance!

Resonance
A Velocity Co-Production

Velocity is very excited to announce our spring co-production with Daniel Costa Dance. After a James Ray residency and several premieres within larger showcases, Resonance marks the full-length debut of both new and remounted work by one of Seattle's fast-rising choreographic stars. Weaving together his backgrounds in contemporary, modern, and street-style choreography with Seattle creative collective The Purple Lemonade, Costa offers a bold new choreographic vision that is at once fluid, rigorous, and stunningly precise. In this co-production, Costa will be developing a body of work around the concept of resonance, and the ways in which energy reverberates both in an individual body and in a collective. At a moment when our discourse and public sphere feels increasingly fractured, Daniel Costa Dance wants to offer a visceral and poetic vision of togetherness through contemporary movement.
One-On-Ones
A Velocity Co-Production

2020 marks the debut of Velocity's One-On-Ones Residency program, a collaboration between Velocity and local dance artist and One-On-Ones Creative Director Emma Lawes. One-On-Ones grew out of Lawes' observation that many opportunities in fellowships and residencies in movement arts are still relegated for choreographers only. Hoping to create a space for the performer/creator or the performer/author, One-On-Ones will offer four local, emerging performing artists a 10 hour mentorship/residency with a local performer of their choice, with the tutelage oriented around a project or research question of the mentee's choice. At the end of this residency, the pairs will share their research in an informal, public showing at Velocity May 28-29. In the weeks following, each mentee will also offer a two-hour masterclass with the local community to share their research findings. We are very proud to launch this program with Emma Lawes, and to forge new structures in which Seattle dance artists can connect, research, and inspire one another.

Action at a Distance + Petra Zanki

Velocity is very excited to announce that we will be hosting a residency to support the new collaboration between two artists who are taking Northwest dance in daring new directions. Vancouver-based Action at a Distance Dance Society (Vanessa Goodman) and Seattle's own Petra Zanki will team up with their long-time collaborators in all things sonic, Benoît Pioulard and LOSCIL to create an immersive experience blending the boundaries between dance and sound.
This residency comes out a mutual desire to support and build relationships between the Seattle music/dance community and the Vancouver music/dance community. Geographically, these cities are each other's closest dance community here on the west coast. Seattle and Vancouver are often referred to as sister cities, and yet an exchange between them has been all too rare considering our geographical proximity. The goal of this project is to cross those national borders and barriers, and kick off what we hope will be a long-lasting series of creative dialogues between artists in these two cities.

Lauded by the Seattle Times as "an excellent chance to see new ideas and rough drafts of what our choreographers are thinking about," Strictly Seattle is a one-of-a-kind training and performance opportunity for dancers of all levels! Strictly's five adult programs give dancers ranging from beginning to professional a three-week intensive training program, culminating in creating and performing a brand new dance work with a Seattle-based choreographer. The culminating performance at the end of the three weeks is consistently one of Seattle's most popular dance events of the summer. This year's choreographers are: Zoe Scofield, Alyza DelPan-Monley, Nia-Amina Minor, Maya Soto, Kaitlin McCarthy, + Jaret Hughes.
Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation

Now in its 27th year, the international Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation (SFDI) is a world-renowned festival that provides the perfect opportunity to learn and share experiences with some of the most highly regarded artists working in the field of dance today. SFDI is a week of intensives, classes, nightly jams, somatic labs, site-specific workshops, performances and discussions focused on fostering the study and practice of dance improvisation. This year's intensive faculty includes: Eiko Otake, Rosy Simas, Ray Chung, Morgan Thorson, and Physical Education (keyon gaskin, Allie Hankins, Lu Yim and Takahiro Yamamoto).
