The producers of In Focus with Martin Sheen have announced an upcoming report outlining an innovative approach to working with autistic children in the classroom.

In Focus with Martin Sheen is an independently produced television program appearing in markets around the country. The show airs on public television stations and is hosted by the legendary Martin Sheen. Mr. Sheen has a reputation as one of America’s most respected actors and also has a deep commitment to philanthropy and activism. In Focus Martin Sheen explores innovation in business and medicine as well as novel approaches that are improving educational outcomes for American students.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, one in 150 children is born with some form of autism. As these children reach school age, they present unique challenges to educators. Teachers are utilizing a new technique called Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to help autistic children work through behavioral issues. Parents are also part of the technique that reinforces appropriate behavior and discourages acting out. By working with autistic children using the techniques, teachers and parents are giving these students the tools they need to get the most out of the classroom.

In Focus with Martin Sheen is planning on airing the pieces later this year. In Focus with Martin Sheen can be reached through the show’s official website at infocusptv.com or on Facebook at facebook.com/InFocusMartinSheen for more information.
