The Opera stars Michaela Schuster and Johan Botha, and is directed by Claus Guth. Tannhaeuser und der Saengerkrieg auf der Wartburg will premiere on June 16.

- June 09, 2010 Yesterday, June 8, Laura Aikin, Stephen West, Rudolf Rosen, Franz Mazura, Natascha Petrinsky, and Roman Sadnik perform during a dress rehearsal of Alban Berg's opera 'Lulu' at Vienna's Theater an der Wien. In this silent role - which was conceived specifically for the production - Mr. Besserer will serve as the performer of the 'live animation' taking place on stage, as created by director/designer Doug Fitch.

- May 27, 2010 In honor of the 200th Anniversary of Edgar Allen Poe's birth, the American Lyric Theater asked three composers and three librettists last year as part of The Composer Librettist Development Program what they believed Poe would be writing if he were alive today. Under the mentorship of librettist Michael Korie and Producing Artistic Director Lawrence Edelson, these six artists have been developing THE POE PROJECT, a trilogy of one-act psychological thrillers inspired by Poe's short stories. Thanks to a commissioning grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, along with additional support from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and The ASCAP Foundation: Joseph and Rosalie Meyer Fund, American Lyric Theater has commissioned the completion of this exciting and haunting new trilogy.

- May 15, 2010 Nashville Opera and Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory present an evening of operatic music and star-gazing on May 15. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic basket filled with their favorite foods and beverages which can be enjoyed during a special outdoor concert on the grounds of the observatory. At the conclusion of the opera program guests will have an opportunity to view stars in the evening sky through the Seyfert Telescope (weather permitting). The event offers three different price levels: $20 for a reserved seat, $25 for a table seat (perfect for picnic dinners), and $100 for the Patron Level which also includes additional vocal offerings and star-gazing from the roof of the observatory after the concert. Tickets must be purchased prior to the event from Nashville Opera at (615) 832-5242 or online at www.nashvilleopera.org. The price of admission also includes parking in the adjacent area next to the observatory. Doors open at 6pm and the concert will be performed from 7pm to 8pm in the Dyer Observatory's patio tent.

- May 14, 2010 Starting April 23, Wagner's 'Der Fliegende Hollander' (The Flying Dutchman) returns to the New York Met for the first time since 2000, starring soprano Deborah Voigt in her Met role debut as Senta. When Voigt performed the role in 2005, the Boston Globe described her voice as "huge, bright, and refulgent." Juha Uusitalo brings his renowned interpretation of the mysterious Dutchman to the Met stage for the first time. Tenor Stephen Gould makes his Met debut as Erik, and bass Hans-Peter Konig sings Daland for the first time with the company. Kazushi Ono takes the Met podium to conduct. For the final performance, Philip Webb will sing the role of Erik. August Everding's production, which had its Met premiere in 1989, features set design by Hans Schavernoch, costumes by Lore Haas, and lighting by Gil Wechsler. Stephen Pickover is the Stage Director. Performances run through May 14.
