Capitol City Opera Company to Present Mozart's THE ABDUCTION, 3/27-29 by BWW News Desk
- February 03, 2015 Capitol City Opera Company will present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's light-hearted comic opera The Abduction from the Seraglio on Friday, March 27 at 8pm, Saturday, March 27 at 8pm, and Sunday, March 29 at 3pm at Conant Performing Arts Center at Oglethorpe University. - February 03, 2015 Following the final performances in his celebrated Nielsen Project and his triumphant Verdi Requiem with the New York Philharmonic, Alan Gilbert returns to the Metropolitan Opera for the first time in seven years to conduct ten performances of Mozart's Don Giovanni, from February 4 to March 6, leading Mozart's retelling of the Don Juan legend in Michael Grandage's production.
Lyric Unlimited to Premiere Klezmer Opera THE PROPERTY, 2/25 by BWW News Desk
- February 02, 2015 Lyric Unlimited presents the world premiere of The Property, a klezmer opera by composer Wlad Marhulets and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann. It opens Wednesday, February 25, with five performances through Thursday, March 5. World premiere presentations of The Property are presented in partnership with the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood Feb. 25, 26, 27, with additional performances at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in suburban Skokie Mar. 4-5.
Florida Grand Opera Extends Fundraising Deadline in Broward County by BWW News Desk
- February 02, 2015 Florida Grand Opera (FGO) announces today that the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, in an effort to keep opera in Ft. Lauderdale, has agreed to allow FGO to extend the deadline of when it must confirm the use of 2015–16 dates. FGO must now inform the center that the opera will be using the reserved dates for FGO's 2015-16 productions, Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia and Bellini's Norma, by February 14, 2015.

- February 02, 2015 Anita Darian, a soprano whose four-octave voice earned her the nickname “The Armenian Yma Sumac” and spawned an eclectic 50-year career that ranged from performances with the New York City Opera, Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic to big-band jazz concerts, co-starring roles with Barbara Cook, and hit pop recordings that included “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is dead at 87. A longtime resident of East Atlantic Beach, L.I., she died Sunday, Feb. 1 at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside of complications from surgery.

- January 31, 2015 Houston, January 29, 2015-Houston Grand Opera's (HGO) 2015-16 season showcases the vibrant and diverse artistic mix that marks HGO as a leading 21st-century American opera company: Wagner's Siegfried, the third installment of La Fura dels Baus's imaginative Ring cycle featuring a new generation of Wagnerians; the world premiere of Carlisle Floyd's Prince of Players; Dvo?ak's fairy tale rarity Rusalka; a holiday revival of family favorite The Little Prince from the award-winning composer Rachel Portman and librettist Nicholas Wright; a new production of The Marriage of Figaro and a new-to-Houston Eugene Onegin; a beloved core production, Tosca; and the Houston debut of Broadway sensation Rob Ashford's take on the classic musical Carousel. Ilya Bannik to Step in for Ailing Alexei Tanovitski in Met Opera's IOLANTA by BWW News Desk
- January 28, 2015 Ilya Bannik will make his Met debut as King René in Thursday's performance of Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, replacing Alexei Tanovitski, who is ill.
The originally scheduled premiere of Iolanta was canceled as a result of yesterday's city-wide ban on road travel and the shutdown of public transportation due to adverse weather conditions. This Thursday's performance will now be the Met premiere of Iolanta, which will be presented in a double bill with Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle.
