The Metropolitan Opera's fifth season of free open dress rehearsals begins on October 8 with the company's new production of Modest Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, starring bass René Pape in the title role. Valery Gergiev conducts the production, which is directed by Stephen Wadsworth. The dress rehearsal begins at 11:00 a.m.
Two thousand free tickets, limited to two per person, will be available through an online ticket drawing only. Entries may be made on October 5 through the Met's website www.metopera.org. Winners will be announced on October 6 after 12:00 p.m. on the Met's website and tickets must be picked up at the Met's box office on October 7 by 8 p.m.
Boris Godunov opens on October 11 and runs through October 30, returning for three performances starting March 9.
Boris Godunov is the first of three open final dress rehearsals offered in the 2010-11season. The second final dress rehearsal will be held Monday, January 31 for the Met's new production of John Adams's Nixon in China, directed by Peter Sellars; the third final dress rehearsal will be on Monday, March 21 for Bartlett Sher's new production of Rossini's Le Comte Ory, starring Juan Diego Flórez, with Diana Damrau and Joyce DiDonato. Live Broadcasts Around the WorldThe October 23 matinee of Boris Godunov will be transmitted to more than 1,500 movie theaters in more than 40 countries globally as part of The Met: Live in HD series.
The March 12 matinee will be broadcast live over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
