For the third year in a row, RDT will team up with visual artist Megan Hallet and invite the audience to 'draw a dance.' American Ballet Theatre Announces New Project Plie Initiative by BWW News Desk
- September 13, 2013 American Ballet Theatre (ABT) has announced the formation of Project Plie, a comprehensive initiative to increase racial and ethnic representation in ballet and to diversify America's ballet companies. Project Plie seeks to combine training and support of ballet students and dance teachers from communities previously underrepresented in American ballet companies with the creation of a nationwide partner network of professional ballet companies who are committed to diversity. In addition, Project Plie will include a new partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to introduce participants to ballet and identify children for future training.

Wayne McGregor's Chroma explores the drama of the human body and its ability to communicate extremes of thought and emotion. The score, drawn from original music by Joby Talbot and his arrangements of music by American rock band The White Stripes, is combined with stark, minimalist designs by architect John Pawson. Against this backdrop is set the inventive and energy-driven choreography of McGregor. Chroma had its premiere in 2006 at the Royal Opera House and in 2007 received an Olivier Award for Best New Dance Production.

- September 12, 2013 Award-winning choreographer/directors Janice Garrett and Charles Moulton will present the premiere of A Show of Hands--a New Music USA commission of a new, site-specific performance event that explores touch, gesture and the infinite expressive powers and possibilities of the human hand-- in six performances October 17 through 26 in the Pottruck Family Atrium of the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. The work features an original score by Bay Area composer Dan Becker-performed by new contemporary ensemble, the Friction Quartet-a backdrop of hand drawings by Charles Moulton and six dancers. The company has until September 30 to vacate their office space and studio at 30 E. 31st Street, NYC, on the fifth floor of the parish house of the Madison Avenue Baptist Church.
