Benefit Concert For Greater DC Diaper Bank Announced for 6/23

123 Andrés  (Uno, Dos, Tres Andrés) celebrates the release of his newest album, La luna with a “Pajama Party” family concert. All ticket sales will benefit the Greater DC Diaper Bank. 123 Andrés is also donating $1 from each album sale of La Luna during the first year of its release to the Greater DC Diaper Bank and the National Diaper Bank Network. The artist will present a donation check to the organization at the concert.

New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), is proud to continue its mission of providing an outstanding music education and performance opportunities to students between the ages of 12-22 by launching a new Musical Theater Composition program aimed at diversifying the world of musical theater. The new director and performance information is expected to be announced in summer 2018. Also new in 2018/19 the NYYS Orchestra and Chamber Music Programs will tour together for the first time ever to Spain in 2019, where they will explore cities including Madrid, Granada, and Seville.

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra will join arts organisations around the world to salute the legacy of cultural giant Leonard Bernstein as part of the #BernsteinAt100 celebrations.  Legendary British conductor John Wilson, Australian soprano Lorina Gore, and Broadway stars Kim Criswell and Julian Ovenden will come together with the SSO to perform hits from West Side Story, On the Town, Candide and other musical theatre highlights from the Bernstein canon in three concerts at the Sydney Opera House on May 10-12.
Chamber Music Society 10th Anniversary Gala Moved To Fall 2018

In response to the news announced last week regarding Leonard Slatkin's heart bypass surgery, the Chamber Music Society of St. Louis (CMMSL) has decided to postpone their 10th Anniversary Gala “Notes From Hollywood – The Sequel”, originally scheduled for May 21, until the fall in order to keep the original program centered around Slatkin.  Executive and Artistic Director Marc Gordon explains, “It is simply out of the question to try to replace Leonard Slatkin for a program with music that revolves around him and his stories/experiences related to the music on our program.”  The new date for the gala will be decided and then announced after Slatkin is out of the hospital and recovering. VIP and concert only tickets will be honored for the rescheduled gala date.

Honens International Piano Competition Announces 2018 Semifinalists

Ten pianists have been chosen to advance to the Semifinals of Canada's Honens International Piano Competition. The pianists (aged 21 to 29) come from nine countries: Austria, Belgium, Georgia, Hong Kong, Italy, Romania, South Africa, Taiwan, and the United States. Only one pianist will be named Honens Prize Laureate and win the world's largest award of its kind—$100,000 (CAD) and an Artist Development Program valued at a half million dollars. The Semifinals and Finals of the Honens International Piano Competition take place during the 2018 Honens International Piano Competition & Festival in Calgary, August 30 to September 8, 2018.

On Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 4:00pm, the pioneering International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) presents a program of works by composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir highlighting her unorthodox use of the piano. ICE pianist Cory Smythe, a champion and commissioner of Anna's solo music, is in the center of National Sawdust's stage, circled by the audience, with the audience encircled by ICE musicians, immersed in the music. Conductor Steven Schick, a longtime ICE collaborator, leads the ensemble. This performance is part of ICE's year long participation as a National Sawdust 2017-18 Artists-in-Residence. This project is supported by Nokia Bell Labs Experiments in Art and Technology program.

Violinist Tosca Opdam Makes Weill Debut In Robin De Raaff World Premiere, Inspired By De Kooning Painting

Dutch violinist Tosca Opdam will make her debut in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall presented by EBF Classics on June 4, 2018 at 8pm with a program exploring the theme of “home.” The centerpiece of the evening is the world premiere of Robin de Raaff's North Atlantic Light, commissioned by and dedicated to Opdam and inspired by Willem de Kooning's 1977 painting of the same name. Accompanied by pianist Victor Stanislavsky, she will also perform J.S. Bach's Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord in E major, BWV 1016; selections from Korngold's Much Ado About Nothing Suite; Debussy's Violin Sonata; and Prokofiev's Violin Sonata No. 2 in D major, Op. 94bis. Opdam plays a Matteo Goffriller violin from 1700, which is generously on loan to her by a private collector.
