L'Aura Soave (Diego Castelli, Dario Palmisano, Diego Cantalupi & Davide Pozzi) and soprano Jessica Gould dazzled New York audiences in their CD release concert for "At the Pleasure of Mazarin," a sumptuous performance of works by Cavalli, Carissimi, Lulli, Mazzocchi, and Rossi that were brought to Paris by the Italian-born cardinal.
"I’ve never heard this specific piece sung before by anyone, probably because so few can, but in my experience with something like this, a singer either executes this kind of passagework with consummate ease or undermines the whole thing with even the slightest hint of technical struggle.
