Three Local Organizations Collaborate To Help Local Children Find Families 3/24

By: Feb. 12, 2010

MARE, THE MASSACHUSETTS ADOPTION RESOURCE EXCHANGE, will hold a "shop for a cause" fundraising event on Wednesday, March 24th from 6:00-9:00 pm. The fundraiser will be held at The Color Studio, 555 Washington Street in Wellesley and is open to the public. Jenny Boston, a Westborough based fashion boutique, will transform The Color Studio from a hair salon and spa into a trendy retailer of unique accessories and gifts to be sold at 30-60% off retail. Jenny Boston will donate up to 25% of the proceeds to MARE's efforts to find adoptive families for children in state foster care. MARE has been finding adoptive families for foster children since 1957. If you've seen Wednesday's Child on WBZ TV or Sunday's Child in the Boston Globe, you've seen just a little of MARE's work to build "forever families".

"Over 600 local children are growing up in temporary foster care right now," said MARE's Executive Director Lisa Funaro. "They need what most of us take for granted - a permanent, loving family. We are so grateful that The Color Studio is hosting this "fun" fundraising event to help our children who are waiting for adoption. We hope hundreds of smart shoppers will stop by for some charitable shopping. And we'll be glad to answer any questions about adoption, too."

Barbara Canty, owner of The Color Studio is looking forward to the event. "One of our Salon clients, who worked with MARE during her family's adoption process, had mentioned that the organization was suffering during these difficult economic times. I was thrilled to offer MARE this opportunity and hope that participation in the fundraiser will reach far beyond my own clients to the general public at large. Everyone is welcome to visit, shop, and enjoy some wine, cheese, and other delights."

Jenny Boston, LLC has been offering fundraising events for more than six years providing nonprofit organizations the opportunity to raise money in a fun and unique way. "Our business model is structured so that we can offer our products at significantly discounted prices and be able to give a considerable portion of the proceeds to the organization", comments Jenn DiMaria, owner and founder of Jenny Boston. "We try to limit our margins by selling in volume so that it's a win-win for everyone. As a result, we have many loyal customers who patronize our business as well as our fundraising events." The school of the New England Center for the Performing Arts based in Franklin recently held a Jenny Boston fundraiser and raised $5000 for programming support. "Our jewelry, handbags, belts, and travel gear, all priced under $40, appeal to children, teens and woman of all ages, but Men love to shop the Jenny Boston fundraisers because of the great discounts" quotes DiMaria.
