Oscar® nominated The Secret of Kells set for US release opening NYC 5th March & Boston on 19th March
The ground swell of grassroots support for this independently distributed film has been growing and the recent viral and word-of-mouth Oscar® campaign built huge support for this very special animated feature.Irish made animated feature The Secret of Kells continues its success as a US release is announced for 19th March. The film is set to open in New York City on 5th March, Boston on 19th March and expanding 2nd April to New York, Chicago, San Francisco and other markets.The Secret of Kells is the debut feature film from the team at Cartoon Saloon and its recent Academy Award ® nomination for Best Animated Feature was a huge achievement. Cartoon Saloon is sharing the nominations with major studios Pixar and Disney, and beat other major studios to the short list. The film, now available on DVD, was also nominated in the recent Annie Awards.
Cartoon Saloon began as an informal partnership between a group of animators brought together by Paul Young and Tomm Moore in 1999. The company has since grown into a multi-award winning animation and illustration design studio and develops and produces feature film and TV series projects while producing award winning short films, television commercials, graphic novels and children's books. In addition to developing and producing Tomm Moore's THE SECRET OF KELLS, The Saloon also successful developed and produced its first TV Series, The IFTA award winning SKUNK FU! (which was also nominated for a BAFTA) which has been sold to broadcasters in over 120 countries worldwide, including the BBC, Cartoon Network, Canal J. France 5 Super RTL Disney and ABC Australia. Cartoon Saloon is currently in development of a number of new projects, Three new feature film projects, Song of the Sea, Skunk FU! The Movie and Bluebeard. Children's animated TV series Galaxy Boyz, Pirate Zoe and Puffins Rock are currently in development for the international market.
