I can’t believe it’s been two decades since the Stokes revival. I’ve been listening to that cast recording on repeat for a few days now and it got me thinking how much I would love another big revival. Curious to hear thoughts on who people think would be right for casting now. For a while I’ve had this image of Anika Noni Rose as Aldonza that fascinates me, personally.

How many times do you think Banderas has turned down this role?

What about a revival set in a women’s prison? So an all female/non-binary cast? Probably a more natural fit than 1776.

After the “Nine” revival, I swear there was talk of Banderas and Mary Stuart Masterson doing this show. Now that’s a lady who shocked everyone with her singing voice and should have done MUCH more theatre.

Banderas and Audra McDonald should have done a film of this, maybe for television.

It’s been seriously discussed by LCT as a Bartlett Sher directed revival with Paulo Szot as Don Quixote, Danny Burstein as Sancho Panza, and Kelli O’Hara as Aldonza… haven’t heard anything about this in a few years, but that could have been marvelous casting for the Beaumont!!!

I would also like to see one.  I see two issues: the last production lost money and, more seriously, a lot of critics felt that the show has not aged well.  I loved the last production, so who knows?

Kelli O'Hara as Aldonza?!?!?! Someone must have been smoking something truly potent to even suggest such a thing....and I am a fan.

I can’t see Kelli O’Hara in this.  I have always found her ‘talented but bland’.  I don’t think she could pull off Aldonza.

KOH would be awful casting. And I don’t think Szot is quite a good enough actor for Don Q.

Love the idea of Anika Noni Rose. Adrienne Warren? Shereen Pimentel? Could Jasmine Cephas Jones sing it?

All I’ve ever wanted was to hear Marc Kudisch sing this score.

I’ve always wanted to see Raul Esparza in Man of La Mancha.

I'm still rooting for an Anika Noni Rose production of A Little Night Music

Unless someone is going to stage this in a smaller theatre with a lower upfront investment, e.g., a Circle in the Square type of production or Roundabout (if it is still around), I would imagine that this will not be revived any time soon without a big star.  So, I think the best chance of seeing this with Kudisch or Esparza will be in a smaller production.  La Mancha doesn't have a large cast, so a Circle in the Square type of production may be viable.

I think if Marc was ever going to do this, he already would have. But I can still hope at least for a regional production somewhere.

Yes, she has an extremely strong legit voice and would sing/act the hell out of it, but I would like to see someone older and brassier, like Mandy Gonzalez.

As for the other principals, I would love to see Raul Esparza as Don Quixote and Titus Burgess as Sancho.

What about Nicole Scherzinger as Aldonza?

Yea, I can't get the idea of Esparza out of my head. Problem is ticket sales (same with many of these people).

Also, everyone always sleeps on TO EACH HIS DULCINEA. What a beautiful song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IL72SfkBRn0
