Worst Picture. Worst Actress (Jeanna de Waal), Worst Actor (Roe Hartrampf), Worst Supporting Actor (Gareth Keegan), Worst Supporting Actress (Erin David AND Judy Kaye), Worst Director (Christopher Ashley), Worst Screenplay (Bryan and DiPietro), Worst Screen Combo (Any klutzy cast member & any lamely lyricized (or choreographed) musical number)
Dear Evan Hansen:
Worst Actor (Ben Platt), Worst Supporting Actress (Amy Adams), Worst Director (Stephen Chbosky), and Worst Screen Combo (Ben Platt & any other character who acts like Platt singing 24-7 is normal)
It would be so aggravating if Diana and DEH won whilst all the Broadway talent and/or musical movies end up going home empty handed at the Oscars...
Whilst most of us can agree that those two films were bad in the sort of "trainwreck" way embraced by the Razzies, it is odd that Camila Cabello's Cinderella was ignored despite receiving just as much critical hostility. So the proshoot and the stage adaptation have been nominated, but not the equally annoying movie musical?
If Rotten Tomatoes is a good aggregate for critical sentiment, and it usually is:
CINDERELLA: 43% (127 Reviews)
CRITICS CONSENSUS: This singalong-worthy Cinderella sprinkles some modern fairy dust on the oft-told tale, but flat performances and clunky dialogue make watching often feel like a chore.
DEAR EVAN HANSEN: 30% (262 Reviews)
CRITICS CONSENSUS: Dear Evan Hansen does a fair job of capturing the emotion of its source material, but it's undermined by questionable casting and a story that's hard to swallow.
DIANA THE MUSICAL: 12% (34 Reviews)
CRITICS CONSENSUS: Diana done dirty.

The Last Duel and House of Gucci did better than Cinderella w/the critics, but still got nominated for Razzies. And you would think that a substance free fairytale musical with a celeb-heavy cast (inc. the reliably unpopular James Corden) would be a pretty rich target....
I think Cinderella's performances being flat means there wasn't anything memorably awful or cringeworthy, which works in its favor. So, kudos to Diana and DEH for being cream of the crop in being awful!

I’m surprised to see Amy Adams and Gareth Keegan nominated. I thought Adams was just fine in Dear Evan Hansen, and even some of the people that hated Diana thought Keegan’s James Hewitt walked away with the whole show, entering shirtless on a horse and belting a high E.

The Razzies have usually had an element of nominating "everyone" from a bad movie, and I think that spirit of "Punishing" actors was in play here. I feel like Gareth Keegan embracing the campiness of Diana might have oddly counted against him (His singing ability feels pretty silly as well, particularly given that the real-life Hewitt is one of the worst singers EVER - He once appeared on a Celebrity X Factor show with fellow Tabloid mainstay Rebecca Loos*, and their take on pop songs like "The Way You make me Feel" and "Addicted To Love" is as magnificently terrible as Diana: The Musical, but far shorter...)
* - the British soccer icon David Beckham allegedly had an affair with her at the height of his career. The phrase "British soccer icon" tells you all you need to know about the controversy and why you haven't heard of it until now...

To think he could’ve just said “I’ve searched my heart and I’m simply too old to play this role again. I should pass it onto another new star.”"
There is no quoting here, but it's pretty obvious you're referring to Ben Platt...
As several critics said, the thing about Evan Hansen is that he needs to be played by a younger actor more convincing in his ability at capturing the vulnerability that fuels his unethical actions. Ben Platt had this when he played Evan Hansen on stage, but has lost it now, and as a result, the role that made him a musical icon has now made him a musical laughingstock, and that will always be depressing, regardless of personal opinions on Platt himself...
Both well deserved because WOOF! Regarding Cinderella, they were never going to a touch a woke production with a black gay man as her mentor. Never, ever, ever. They would blasted to hell on socials and nobody needs that. It wasn't that bad anyways, just uninspired.
So would Ben Platt make history as the first person to win a Tony and a Razzie for the same role? (Obviously 2 different performances) but what an interesting piece of trivia.
He’s probably already made history with the Tony win and Razzie nom for the same role.
Anyway, bigger and better stars have won Razzies before and still went on to have successful careers. It seems that the best way to respond is embrace it rather than get offended.

Alan Menken won the T in his EGOT for the Score of Newsies, 2 decades after one of the songs got a Razzie for Worst Original Song...
I’m surprised they spared Dear Evan Hansen for Worst Picture. I also expected to see some Cinderella nominations after it was mocked so thoroughly. I do wish they’d spared the Diana cast. They weren’t the problem.
On a non theatre related note, I hope this Razzie nomination kills any Oscar nomination chances for Jared Leto. A truly embarrassing performance that has no business in any other awards conversation but the Razzies.

True, I guess I separated that mentally from this since it’s a different category (acting vs composing). Plus the razzie winning song was obviously cut from what became the Tony winning score, so I didn’t consider it the same work being evaluated.
Also in this comparison, the sequence of the trajectory should be noted. Alan Menken took a piece that had a Razzie winning song and improved it, turning it into a Tony winning score.
I think all of the Diana noms for worst actor/actress are very much a scapegoat here. Yes the show was... what it was, but their performances were serviceable. Roe Hartrampf particularly was giving a lot in that role.

Jeanna de Waal and Judy Kaye did not deserve Razzies for this. If anything, the cast is not at fault for the shortcomings of Diana; they were working their butts off and were clearly having a blast when I got to see it live.
