Loved it!!! The opening made all teary eyed. When Jeff came out and was all “I’ve missed you!” I just didn’t even bother to hold back a few tears.
I’m so happy the show is getting a kind of “reboot”. I was half expecting the eliminated players to get some sort of redemption chance at the end and was thrilled that didn’t happen. And a blindside episode 1! Woo-Hoo! I’m so curious how that new rock twist is going to play out at tribal, in the future. Some really nice changes so far, I think!
Thoughts on it being a shorter stay on the island? No longer 39 days, but just 26 now. Mixed on this cast.

It's for this season and the next one at least.

Well, I hope it’s only for those two seasons then. The show is one of the Highest rated shows for CBS still, isn’t it? I would imagine they would want to go back to normal episode counts as soon as possible.
The number of episodes are the same. But the game is now only played over 26 days instead of 39 now.

It’s 26 days cause of the Covid quarantine, however, Jeff seems thrilled with seasons 41-42 so it may stay at 26 days. Won’t change the amount of episodes
I enjoyed the premiere but there were a bit too many twists for one episode. The protect/risk twist seemed unnecessary and would have been a real waste of time had everyone chosen to protect. I also didn't need the "come on in, guys" wokeness (yes, I know I'm awful and un-PC).

It also seemed like the 26 days was to get it edited in time for the Fall. 13 fewer days to cut down and edit. They got the go-ahead from Fiji to start filming back in April I believe. Crew quickly arrived and the cast went through quarantine and shooting began in June. They've been filming their season back-to-back in Fiji for a while to save $$$. The 42nd season just wrapped up production before season 41 premiered.

It was the same filming schedule as always, so this isn’t the case. They’ve filmed 39 day seasons later than this for a fall premiere so it’s solely the 14 day quarantine. It definitely saved them money for not needing to extend their time in Fiji, and who knows, they may need to quarantine again. Fall seasons film late March to early May, and Spring seasons Late May to early July. Had been the case for quite some time now.
I liked the casting although eye candy was noticeably absent. I think over time reality shows have shifted to interesting back stories and representation which seems to hook more viewers.
Wild vote! Loving the dynamics so far. Shocked Tiffany switched the vote essentially. Total missed opportunity however.
Xander’s idol twist is interesting. What he and other idol finders have to say out loud is so silly it feels like big brother, but then idea behind the twist isn’t bad. They’re trying to make idols less powerful which I appreciate, however I’m not sure how not everyone will figure out who has the idols because of what they have to say.
Now if Xander didn’t tell anyone would we have this issue? Idk. Huge advantage for the Yase tribe in general, not really for Xander right now.
Survivor still doing a ton of twists, I hope they cool it for some episodes at least this season. Still loving this cast!
While I understand the whole women's alliance thing, I don't think Tiffany is someone you want to be aligned with. She's terrible at challenges and she has zero chill around camp. Why would she think Xander has an idol when Evvie said she read the flippin note! Speaking of which, Evvie is pretty bad at the game herself. She's just spilling all the beans not just in her own tribe but to the others as well.
The idol twist is great. I'm so sick of the constant refreshing of idols so it's nice to see that there's a challenge to them and there's repercussions. I really don't need the protect/risk vote anymore. People know how it works and they go in already having a plan on which decision to make.
Side note: Did we think Voce is gay? He gave off those vibes but I didn't see anything about it online.

I feel like there is a big gay vibe with many of the cast members…..and I did feel it with the evicted tribe member. I guess it show progress when people don’t feel the need to publicly announce their sexuality.
Watched tonight since I didn’t have anything else to watch. Can anyone explain why they kept saying “the journey”. A few times I heard “we grew close during the journey” or along those lines. What does that mean? I don’t remember hearing that in previous seasons.
No. There have been several episodes where no one was sent home due to players being injured and/or leaving the game for other reasons. Jeff also explained that it was a two-parter.
