There was also a pre-show speech (included in the stream they did on tiktok tonight) where it was announced that there were cameras and he mentioned something about the rights being acquired for a live filming right before COVID.
While it was not 100% confirmed/formally announced, it was indeed heavily rumored/hinted at back when the Broadway return was announced that there would likely be a proshot.

They were also filming (had multiple cranes) yesterday morning before Sara called out. I realize literally everything up to this point has been mere rumors or that you could be right about media (do they really need more Sara b-roll for a limited engagement though?), but my gut tells me this is absolutely going to a streaming service. Far too many rumors and inside talk about this happening over the past few months. Sara keeps hinting that “something big is coming” on her socials.
The filming could possibly go on for a few days. That used to be the story at the Met. They'd tape several performances and then cobble together a tape that featured the best singing for broadcast over PBS. I don't think that happens with "Live in HD" though.

All “live” broadcasts are filmed 3 times: two with an audience and one without (for close-ups, etc). The recent revival of SHE LOVES ME did a live streamed performance but the released version used on Broadway HD and aired on PBS, etc was edited together from the 3 filmed performance. None of these “live” pro-shots use footage from a single performance.
Having only seen Sara in the role I kind of wish it was Jessie Mueller who was filmed! Her voice sounds a bit more fractured/emotive to me on the cast recording than Sara did but I completely get it. It's her show, and she is more of a star.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
I saw this show back in 2019 with Stephanie Torns and Joey McIntyre, and it sounded old and stale.
Nevertheless, I’d love to see this proshot capture and give this show another chance, especially with Bareilles in the cast. Perhaps the show felt fresh again during the Barrymore run.

There were some very very minor changes to the returning production. I loved it just as much as I did pre-shut down.
Do we know which streaming service picked this up? I know the Keri Russell film was distributed by fox, so I wonder if Disney bought the streaming rights.
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.
