The film noir from Billy Wilder which is always among the top in the American Film Institute list of favorites over the years!
Here is a very informative article written by The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg, who was given a chance to interview the original "Betty Schaefer" ( Nancy Olson). Quite a revelatory piece on how it was to be a starlet in the old days...and the impact of Sunset Boulevard.

Thanks for sharing! A very good interview. I do wish she would have commented on the ALW musical, and the plans to make his musical into a movie. I wonder what her thoughts are on that.
Along with legendary director Billy Wilder, Nancy Olson also attended (with her husband Alan W. Livingston) the Los Angeles Opening Night of SUNSET BLVD. in 1993:

Right?! Saw the tidbit about Glenn crashing their table and Patti's response to Jon Hamm. Can anyone tell me ...what's the tea on Patti and Glenn? I understand it was SB related, yes?

" Quickly, LuPone did the World Premiere in London of SUNSET BLVD. She was also contracted to open the show on Broadway. Glenn Close starred in the American Premiere of the musical in Los Angeles. That was to be her only involvement. Close received raves which prompted ALW to change his mind on LuPone opening the Broadway production so he offered it to Close. LuPone was obviously upset as she was legally contracted for Broadway. She promptly quit the London production (trashing her dressing room with a lamp), and thus began her legal battle with ALW and her disgust of all things SUNSET BLVD, including Close.

I forget all the details but didn't she quit for about a week or so then went back and finished her run?

Note-avoiding bleats are not the same as acting through song."
Have you watched any recent film musicals? No one can sing and it doesn’t stop them."
I think it does stop a lot. Especially the level of longevity, the level of standing test of time and the flow of money it makes in the long run.
True, the clap-cattle will watch nearly anything that comes out, when it comes out (including me, I have watched Aladdin, Les Mis all in the cinema), but I also have no interest in ever hearing or seeing it again in my lifetime.
In comparison, I still watch and listen to Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music every year.
I have high hopes for Spielberg's West Side Story, that might be a game changer.

Just to add here a few other contributing factors: LuPone's reviews in London were mixed - most notably she didn't receive a good notice from the New York Times (who I believe also later reviewed Close in LA and raved). I think it was also something of a surprise to everyone involved that SUNSET's box office in London was rather disappointing. This was the era when Lloyd Webber's name was gold, and I think there was real fear about LuPone's ability to sell out the production in NYC. It, of course, was at the time one of the most expensive musicals ever mounted.
I don't know that LuPone necessarily begrudges Close for accepting the role when it was offered to her, but I think she feels Close should have in some way reached out to her as a colleague. Obviously most of LuPone's grievances are about the apparently poor way the firing took place.
“I knew who I was this morning, but I've changed a few times since then.”
After Netflix’s HOLLYWOOD and watching LuPone shine so fabulously, I wouldn’t be surprised she snakes this SUNSET BLVD. away from Close. She simply radiates off the screen and can definitely pull off a 50 year old Norma with a little CGI de-aging sweetening. No need to worry about the vocals — LuPone’s voice is as strong as when she played EVITA at age 30. Plus, the redemption factor is delicious. Ryan Murphy has the magic touch for this.

Maybe they can just hire Patti ?

Anyone who thinks LuPone will star in a Sunset Blvd movie is delusional-sorry but Trump will admit to all of his lies and they’ll be ice skating in hell before this happens.
Webber wouldn’t approve the casting and LuPone would never agree to work with him again. But she does look fabulous in Hollywood. Some of her costumes with the turbans were very Norma Desmond.
Plus she's simply not a big enough name to sell it. People here tend to forget that movies are made to cash in money not just in the States or the UK, but in a huge non English speaking world where no one has ever even heard of her. Glenn Close is surely not as big as she was in the 90s, but she's a recognizable name and a multiple Oscar nominated actress. LuPone never had a leading role in a movie and they surely won't start by casting her as the protagonist of a star vehicle.
Can Glenn Close dub her vocals with Patti? Best of both! :P
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
