Even when shows are given the go to reopen... broadway isn’t going to jump back to normal instantly. International travel will likely be restricted still. I assume many won’t be making unnecessary purchases for a while.
Attendance is going to be a struggle for many shows for I would assume many months. Perhaps until a vaccine is widely produced and available.
I think the question isn’t “when does broadway reopen” but “when does society go back to pre-2020 activity?”

The other concern is once Broadway opens and shows begin to welcome people back, sales will be way down. The question will be how long the shows that reopen can survive and try to wait until audience members return in large numbers. I fear this pandemic will be the end of many many shows, sadly.

Posted: 4/8/20 at 1:53pmI’m dubious we’ll see any shows return in June — or any new shows in the fall. Producers need tourists returning to the city. Trump may try opening the rest of the country next month but NYC is going to be under much stricter guidelines for a long time (perhaps until there is a vaccine.)

For sure. It's really sad. It's shows like Wicked, Phantom, Hamilton, BoM, and The Lion King that people didn't seem to be worried about when the return date was 4/12. My question previously was are people still not worried about those shows? My concern is for shows like Hadestown, Dear Evan Hansen (maybe?), Come From Away, Frozen, Mean Girls, Aladdin, etc.

If it goes thru the entire summer, Broadway will have trouble surviving. Summer months are their best box offices months and if they are lost I can't imagine many shows will be able to handle it. Hope I am wrong."
Summer isn't the best box office months. It's are usually on par with the peaks in the fall and spring, but there have been many summers in recent seasons that have done worse than other times fo year.

I forgot to add this from the NYT's article:
“We’re hopeful that the restrictions will be lifted by June 7,” said Charlotte St. Martin, the president of the Broadway League. “If they’re not, we will continue to monitor government restrictions and will advise ticket holders as soon as we know what those restrictions are.”
So I think they are aware that it may not happen on the 7th. I just wonder if they came up with that date based on what Cuomo said on Monday about getting people back to work. I also thought that they may have been in contact with the city and state to help decide when to come back. Just seems that they wouldn't just pick a date out of thin air without a reason.

Why is the governor being condescending? It's not like Broadway said "this is when we are opening." All they did was cancel performances through June 7.

For the shows that do reopen, I'm curious to see what cast changes happen. For example, Jordan Fisher was only scheduled with DEH through May 17. He's still doing PR stuff for them but I wonder if that will change now.
Aladdin was supposed to have a temporary Jasmine from Mar-May. Lots of other examples I'm sure.

Because they aren't operating with any real information to arrive at that date. According to Deadline:
"Cuomo said that decisions about reopening New York’s businesses will depend entirely on COVID-19 infection rates and protection of the vulnerable, followed by determinations of how, exactly, the city reopens.
“'It’s not just about Broadway theaters,' Cuomo said., 'Before you go to Broadway theaters people will say ‘When can I go back to work? When can I go back to school? When are other essential service going to reopen? Before they go to a play, there’s going to be a lot of other questions that they’re going to ask.'
"Cuomo said the answer to questions about reopening will 'be a function of numbers' – infection rates low enough to be considered safe – on a regional, rather than citywide, basis."

But again, they never said they were opening on that day. And what the man clearly doesn't understand is that the theatre is work for thousands of people. He acts as though the industry's main priority right now is entertaining people, it's not. They want to go back to work.

Cuomo understands the importance of BWAY but dude - nodbody is rushing back to BWAY to fill these theaters...He's not condescending...we must control the virus first and foremost before anything that's his top priority-Health before Wealth!
Alos, Broadway insiders say that date is (June7), essentially, a temporary target, with additional shutdown extensions possible, even probable, throughout the summer.
Personally, I don't think BWAY will open till after Labor Day!

Long running shows I'm not particularly worried about. ALW has stated he wants Phantom on Broadway as long as possible, and the others you list are consistent money makers. Hadestown has already recouped and has low productions costs, so they should be safe. The Disney run productions should also be relatively safe. The productions just in previews or recently opened (with the exception of Six, which I think will be just fine) are the ones in trouble. Additionally any shows that were slated to open in the fall could be pushed back to the winter or spring depending on the time.

You are not understanding what I am saying. When you guys talk about jobs being people's main priority, you act as though there are no jobs in the theatre. Why are other people's jobs more important than a stage manager or dresser?

Yeah honestly this ain’t over till it’s over.
This June 7th date is clearly a “For SURE we won’t be back before then”
Also broadway closed BECAUSE of the usher that had COVID. That is going to haunt them for a whileeee cause they can’t guarantee that won’t happen again yet.
also did people forget so much of the demographic of broadway is old people? They aren’t gonna start taking risks as soon as they can trust me
