Just wondering

Will these closed shows load out their sets immediately? or will they maybe (just in case conditions somehow change) leave the sets in the theatres until the theatres reopen?

New York State has mandated the stoppage of all non-essential work. The theaters and whatever is in them will be more or less untouched until this is all over.

With NY under an essentials only lockdown, they dont really have the option to load out.

Ah. So there might be a little hope that the shows could reopen maybe with other cast members.

Do we know if the theatre owners are still collecting rent from shows?

I think the difference between you and a broadway show is that you are replaceable, no offense.

TECHNICALLY not the case right now since Cuomo put the moratorium on evictions for the time being. Obviously not paying your rent could result in other consequences or eviction AFTER this is all over.

If you’re a New Yorker whose financial situation has been impacted by the pandemic (chances are it has), your mortgage payments can be suspended for 90 days. I suspect rent freezes will be coming soon as well.

Only 32% of New Yorkers actually own their apartments/homes though, I wonder if companies and individuals are going to help renters out?

Remember that mortgage freeze is for all of NY state. It's going to take a while to push through all the legislation needed to help out everyone in the state (and by this point I'd much rather Cuomo handle it than try to handle it locally and leave it in de Blasio's hands)

Unless theatre owners really want to get those things out themselves I imagine things are staying put

You will still have to pay your mortgage for those 3 months suspended fter 90 days = 3 months past along with the next month due

This doesn't seem like a fair analogy to me. You're still living in that apartment, so you're still getting what you're paying for. Technically, it's not the shows that have been forcibly closed - it's the theaters.

This is an excellent point. If the government shut down my apartment building for a period of time, and I couldn’t get back in to remove my belongings, I wouldn’t expect to owe rent for that period.
