A few theaters typically open up after the Tonys, we just don't know what they are yet. But if a show is struggling, and a $1M weekly show wants to move in... one imagines the same shenanigans that found them homeless could find a roof over their heads.

I hope that if someone gets outed by the stop clause for Beetlejuice they also make sure to publicize the fact as much as they can

Dumb question, but could it be possible that lots of people are seeing Beetlejuice because it's closing? Don't most shows do better once they announce their closing date?

Yes, but Beetlejuice has been doing well for quite a while, its not just a recent bump.

And to the previous poster...GETS OUTED? One: its doubtful it was ONE persons decision. Two: its a business decision.

Once a show announces a closing date I think it definitely sees an uptick in ticket sales, Most likely people run to see it who thought they'd see something else they prioritized over the closing show. I'm not 100% sure, because I haven't checked the grosses, but I think shows like Waitress experienced this in its final weeks. You also might see an uptick in sales when cast members announce departure dates. I expect Frozen to get a ticket sales bump in February since both leads are leaving.

One: I never said it was ( andI frankly don't understand what you were trying to say) and two: that's exactly the point I was trying to make. Beetlejuice fans are going up and down about Beetlejuice getting the boot and fail to realize the Shubert Org is well within their rights to do so and if the Beetlejuice producers don't like it, they should have negotiated better.

With all the drama surrounding the show, I'm really going to try to see this show (that is, if I can afford it given I just bought tickets for The Minutes, Wicked and Assassins).

I'd really be shocked if they don't figure something out. Sure, the uptick may be because it could close; but you should see the amount of people who LOVE it.

When the closing was announced, all of my social media feeds were flooded with posts about how sad people were that it's closing. People are so defensive about it and saying horrible things about TMM and blaming that show, and not listening to anyone who tries to tell them why this played out the way it did. I'd never seen anything like it. I'm so thrilled that the show has been doing SO well recently; I have no doubt about peoples love for the show.

You've never seen anything like it because I'm not sure there is the same circumstance.  A show getting booted based on their stop clause, that actually picked up (and DRAMATICALLY) AFTER it happened.

The thing is, most of the young people who are die hards (defending the show on social media and going insane about it), are those that can't afford tickets beyond rush. While this show has its fans, I doubt that they are the ones keeping it afloat. To me, when it comes to any show, any major insane fanbase usually consists of young people who, like I said, can't afford enough to put in a dent as far as grosses are concerned. So, I don't think that it's the fans that are keeping this open, pushing for it to move etc.

Honestly  if the show sustains $1M + a week through February I would think a transfer becomes all the more likely. When I saw its grosses last week, I was actually gobsmacked. With its “dead of winter” ticket promotion I would of thought the grosses would of taken a nose dive like every other musical, but it was down only $191K week over week, when the average difference for a musical was $304K. The fact that the Marquis still doesn’t have a spring tenant is also suprising and makes me wonder if the Neaderlanders are holding the theater for a possible transfer come July that will likely play at least through December, instead of another big budget flop that will likely close come June with this crowded of a musical season.

If the show was closing in March or April it would make sense for a ticket boost now, but it's not closing until June 6. They were given a 7-month notice of its closing, that's very rare and usually only happens for long-running shows.

I'm not sure...I think those fright night promotions they're having might have SOME impact on ticket sales. Not a lot, but maybe some.

As much as I’d like to agree because the “Eek Nights” is a brilliant promotion... I just can’t fully credit an uptick in ticket sales on a keychain, specialty drinks or a Playbill cover. 

I think good ‘ol fashioned marketing and word of mouth is to thank here. Simple as that.

Oh, for sure! Tony/Thanksgiving performances were definitely meant to be included in that comment. I just think we haven’t seen a show benefit from a live performance SO WELL in so long it’s hard to believe, haha

Good point! I'm sure it's happened before, but this is the first time I really paid attention when a stop clause was mentioned (mainly because of the mass outcry).

I saw this on Will Blum’s Instagram. He had a nice message about all the folks who helped him get in costume, makeup, etc in 13 minutes! Anyone know more?

Alex Brightman tweeted about having food poisoning and he will be out of the show tonight as well
