I'm absolutely loving the diversity of these understudies. Almost makes up for the mostly white and brunette main cast. My only hope is as the show extends, these folks will begin to take over the roles full-time and we can see the diversity more representative of the city.

Mmmm. I saw LuPone 3 times and she was hilarious and in strong voice each time. I can’t say Craig was anywhere near as consistent. She will win the Tony.

For whatever's it's worth, 21.4% (3 out of 14) of the playing cast is African American. The most recent Census notes a 25.1% Black/African American population of NYC (compared to 12.3% nationally).

Katrina sang "Someone Is Waiting" at the Guggenheim tonight, for the Works and Process series. There were other performances too. There was also a moderated discussion with Elliot, LuPone, and Lenk. Hopefully something will be posted soon, so we can finally hear how Katrina sounds singing the score.

She sounded great, and made some choices that I found very interesting. In an unrelated part of the conversation, she said they're still making discoveries of the character and her interpretation, so I'm sure things will change between now and when performances begin. They recorded it, and I'm sure it'll be posted like the War Paint one was.

It's only a 5 second clip but I am onboard with those vocals of "Someone is Waiting", which already sound more interesting and expressive to me than Craig's performance. The hand waving might be a little over the top. But I am a fan. This is shaping up well.

Here is a great interview with producer Chris Harper.
Some highlights
- They've wanted an all American cast on Broadway from very early on
- He says Lenk is "utterly enrapturing"
- There are surprises, sets and scenes have been reworked, including the staging of "Another Hundred People, which many people disliked in London
- They are hoping for a Broadway cast recording!

but it's not just the Black cast, it's also the inclusions of Asians and Latins of the understudies cast that I'm excited to see and wish we saw in the playing cast.

Yes! I was hoping this was going to go into the Sondheim theater WITH Jessie Mueller as Bobbie.
I am excited for Katrina Lenk, though!
