The nominations seem largely as expected - though I’m somewhat surprised by the omissions of Allison Pill and Lee Pace. I’m mostly disappointed, however, for James McArdle. I really loved his performance in “Angels” - maybe my favorite of the production.

Why not? It's an original score.

Surprised Alison Pill didn't get in, but looking at that category, I think they all deserve to be there more than she did.

From this morning's Time's article:

"Thirty Broadway productions are eligible for prizes, the smallest number in more than a decade."

^^Didn't know that.

No Laura Benanti is a little disappointing.

When was the last time a show got as negative reviews as Mean Girls but the most (tied) nominations?m Truly don't understand how this happened.

And all of you surprised about the OOTI shut out are quickly forgetting how much the Awards gifted DEH over Comet, which was by far the more creative and original of the two.

What are you talking about? It got some mixed reviews, but overall it was positive.

People are allowed to dislike things that you don't find a big deal. It happens.
"

Sadly, the whole "needs to take a breath," "it's not that deep," and "you're entitled to your wrong opinion" attitude is becoming quite common in the Broadway community/fandom. Just take a venture over to Twitter...

The Great Comet had the most noms last season.

That’s what I said...the amount of noms for performances are running the gamut this year.

I knew Heap for score was a long shot, but no orchestration nom either? That’s sad...really not a lot of surprises this year.

I’m so pissed at myself for changing my Featured Actor prediction at the last minute. I almost nailed that category.

Jessie Mueller gets leading and Frozen has a Best Book nomination. Weird day.

Fun fact!

Out of the 39 acting nominees, 25 of them have never been nominated for a Tony before!

Happy for the all of the Spongebob love, and Ashley Park but no James McArdle is ridiculous. He was way better than David Morse, and quite frankly, Michael Cera is a lead in Lobby Hero.

Also Rene Fleming, really?

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

This list made me realize how much I've been slacking with the new musicals, I've seen/have tickets upcoming to all the plays though.

The low-hanging fruit this season actually hilarious considering how intensely competitive last season was. Oh well.

Was there really such a dearth of possible nominees in Leading Actor in a Musical that they could only muster up 4 nominees? They must have really wanted to keep some people out!
