I agree.  I'm a fan of his but not typically of his voice.  Thought that was one of the best performances of the night.

I honestly just feel fundamentally slimy about of having the Broadway community rally for a political candidate, even a "New Yorker," even Trump's opponent.

If trump wants to organize a Broadway for trump rally then he can. No one is stopping him.

HATE when entertainment becomes political. So sad.

Then don't watch. This isn't a concert that is secretly a fundraiser. It's explicitly a Hillary Clinton fundraiser and anyone tuning in, performing, or buying tickets is aware of that fact. No one has been forced to do any of those things. Actors are people too and are allowed to have their own political opinions and do what they'd like when they aren't working, just like you are.

Thank you Slumdogdelaware! Had no idea this was live streaming.  I saw your post in time to see Origin of Love, which was beautiful.  Looking forward to Lin.

Then call it something other than "Broadway for." Broadway is neither intrinsically political nor politically homogeneous.

As long as humans are humans, they're going to have opinions. Broadway actors are not journalists. And if they want to harness their talent for something they feel strongly about, hey, why not?

I highly doubt anyone thinks Broadway is one gigantic, hive-mind entity. People who didn't participate for political reasons are free to say so (or not).

Yes, heaven forbid anyone utilize the platforms at their disposal to share their views with others. How disgusting!!

How dare they raise money for LGBT organizations, how dare they do good for people who they believe will help not just their community but the entire world, how dare they care enough about diseases/homelessness/etc to sustain an entire non-profit called Broadway Cares...

This isn't Broadway for XYZ LGBT Organization(s). This isn't Broadway for Helping People. This isn't Broadway for Disease Prevention, for Homelessness, for BC/EFA—it's Broadway for Hillary. This event isn't issue advocacy (which I have absolutely no problem with); it's candidate endorsement, which I think crosses a line. Call me out for that belief all you'd like.

I agree with Lizzie. A simpler example is a concert like "Broadway Loves Celine Dion". Broadway is neither intrinsically Celine loving nor musically homogeneous. They don't claim everyone from Broadway is loving Celine Dion by naming the concert as such.

By your explanation alone, no one owns "Broadway". If anyone does, it is these artists and they are clearly okay with having a political fundraiser attached to their names.

Should people who've never held any kind of office never post on social media about their preferred candidate or wear a button or a shirt?

Do you not think that in many ways, candidate endorsement IS issue advocacy? I do.

But it's not Broadway putting it on, it's just Hillary asking a bunch of Broadway stars to help her out.

Also Hillary will help Broadway out by protecting LGBT rights, providing funding to cure diseases throughout the bway community and much more.

I think it's important to read what those from the Actors' Equity Association had to say when they originally announced the endorsement, to remind us all why it's important for an event like this to happen. http://www.actorsequity.org/NewsMedia/news2016/EquityVotesToEndorseClinton.asp

A snippet:

“What do people actually look to the union for?” asked Councillor Francis Jue. “This election is about whether people can carry guns into theaters, about whether or not people can take adolescent gay and lesbian teens and torture them into believing that they are straight. It’s about whether or not we are going to have a Department of Education. This election is about so many of the values we believe in and policies that we put into practice. I think it is incumbent upon us to lead.”
