Was wondering if anyone on the west coast has seen Dame Edna's show? (I know there's an LA message board, but it looks quiet) I had a question....
Could you recommend a safe place in the orchestra to sit? I love Edna, but would rather not to be part of the show. Is row J, centre orch, two seats off aisle okay?
I've seen it in Los Angeles and you'll be perfectly safe in Row J. I consider myself a sort of seat snob...but Edna's where I draw the line. I want to watch the show, not costar in it!
I laughed so much at the show. What's great about it too is that no two shows are the same, especially with the audience involvement. The end of the show was also bittersweet but a very nice coda to an illustrious career.
On one of her previous tours, I was sitting in the second row and I caught one of the gladiolus that Dame Edna throws into the audience. Not knowing what to do with it (Dame Edna was instructing us to hold them high and wave them in the air) I hastily handed it to the lady sitting next to me.
Coach Bob knew it all along: you've got to get obsessed and stay obsessed. You have to keep passing the open windows. (John Irving, The Hotel New Hampshire)
I think I posted this elsewhere, but I saw the tour in LA last week with a packed house and a surprisingly diverse capacity matinee audience and it was, easily, one of the most joyous times I've had in a theatre. Seen Dame Edna at least 4 times, but I don't think I ever laughed this hard and this long. If you've seen her before, the show is exactly what you'd expect and, yet, she continued to surprise and delight. I am amazed at how sharp and quick Humphries' wit remains even has he enter his 80s. It's a shame she won't be ending her run on Broadway.
Please, please, please come to New York, Dame Edna. I've never laughed as hard as I have when I saw you. We love you and are missing you something fierce. Please reconsider!

I was in the 4th row just off center -- and lived in constant fear throughout the show! Dame targeted 3 people right in front of me and the 2 immediately to my right, but I survived unscathed. Did get a lovely gladiolus, however.
I don't think anyone beyond the 5th row was picked (and that guy actually ended up on stage).
Have seen Dame Enda many, many times, and in 2004 when the show was at The Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, Dame Edna spoke to my friend Jo Anne quite a lot during the show and brought her up on stage during Act 2. She did a skit on The Royal Family and Jo Anne was dressed up as Fergie and got a poloroid pic of the 2 of them together. Such a wonderful night!
