Ok...I like the creatives...and the possibility of Ben Walker...but REALLY?

(And I think a Tootsie Musical could work.)

this looks and sounds like a bomb waiting to happen.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I was hoping COCOON: THE MUSICAL! would take the Winter Garden.

I think a revival of Scandalous would do better this.

Does anyone know how the staging for the boxing ring works? In the released footage it looks like the theatergoers in the front center orchestra are seated onstage? Do they make an announcement before the fight and have everyone "relocate"?

Are these "premium" seats? In any event the show "looks" fantastic! The reviews from Germany seem great also

Stage Entertainment's Youtube channel has footage of the press conference, which is (naturally) in German but offers pieces of some of the songs in English - "(If It Keeps on) Raining", "My Nose Ain't Broken", "Fight from the Heart", and "Happiness". They have also released a German-language CD. In fact, because much of the creative team speaks English, the featurettes from Stage often have interviews in English with German subtitling.

While I speak German, unfortunately the slang doesn't translate quite right... the lyrics are deceptively but deliberately simple. I think the quote was, "he sings the way he speaks". Which is true enough. Whether or not it works in the context of a full show, well, I suppose we'll find out.

I'm not exactly certain how the ring works (I'll tell you more after I see it next month)... I know there is a box of seats called the "Golden Ring", and the folks who occupy them move to tiered seating on the former stage, with an overlook onto the ring itself, which sits in the middle of the orchestra. I would presume there is a pause and announcement for the people with those tickets to relocate.

It's going to be a huge hit. For what it is worth the show got RAVES in Germany, for the show and Drew Sarich (who may or may not be coming). Really. It is one of the best reviewed musicals ever in Germany.

Great art? No. Fun and a show for families? Yes. A show tourists and busloads of students will love? Yes.

And c'mon, whose heart doesn't race a little more when they hear that iconic Rocky music? (which is incorporated in the show)

Can't help but assume that the time taken to relocate is going to let a lot of air out of the dramatic balloon, no?

I predict the following theme will surface after it isn't a hit:

"Why did they try to make it funnier? Tanz de Rocky was much darker and and very effective."

I haven't like anything at the Winter Garden since "Gilda Live!".

I myself am waiting for TAXI DRIVER--THE MUSICAL!

I can't wait for the exciting musical number: "You Talkin' to Me? You Talkin' to Me? You Talkin' to Me?"

And the two dance numbers with the chorus of whores, skunk pussies, buggers, queens, fairies, dopers, junkies and hookers: "Flush It Down the F*CKin' Toilet" and "How's Everything in the Pimp Business?"

Travis Bickle's lonely laments: "God's Lonely Man" and "Twelve Hours of Work":

Twelve hours of work
And I still can't sleep.
Damn! Days go on and on.
They don't end.

Betsy's beautiful ballad: "Are You Gonna Be My Friend?"

C'mon! Whose heart DOESN'T race a little more when they hear that iconic Taxi Driver music?

Easy Iris's "Wizard and I" will introduce an exciting romantic subplot between Travis's co-worker and a sexy teen prostitute.

I dunno if this is still true, but as I recall, the European production was either supposed to, or did, combine the original Ahrens/Flaherty score elements with the theme songs from all of the Rocky films. That can only mean this will be a wonderful camp-fest.

Shoot, and I was all excited for "Moonstruck -- the Moon-sical!" in the Winter Garden. Marisa Tomei's second-act ballad/tap dance number "Snap Out Of It" killed, so I hear.

(of course, the dumb producers would just shoehorn in the Shoop Shoop Song for the curtain call to please the tourist masses when it hit Broadway, anyway)

I've seen the show twice here in Hamburg.
It's certainly not the best show I've ever seen, but it definitely has its moment!

The "star" of the show is definitely the set.
For the final fight the ring glides from the stage into the auditorium while the people in the front rows take their new seats on the stage. It's pretty impressive!

Since I'm I huge fan of Ahrens & Flaherty I was pretty disappointed by the music. There are a few really nice songs (especially the stuff Adrian sings) but in general the score isn't very memorable.
Hopefully they'll cut some songs and add new ones for the transfer to Broadway...

In the real world the only people who burst into song are the hopelessly deranged...

So did TARZAN and DRACULA...

Um, I like the aural quality from that workshop video, but some of the lyrics are hokey as hell. He can't seriously sing about his broken nose with those lyrics. That has "rolling in the aisles with laughter" written ALL over it.

This will be an interesting show to follow, especially once the press reviews it.

Absolutely NOT interested in this.

Plus I think I have a schedule conflict. I have a colonoscopy appointment when this is going to play its one preview performance and then CLOSE.

Because of stunning Germanic reviews, doesn't translate to stellar Broadway reviews, this easily could be a knock out in round 1.

>> "I'm definitely a fan of Ahrens and Flaherty, but sorry, this looks embarrassing to me."

It does to me, too. I"m also suspicious of the only videos of the show I can find on the net... NONE of them show more than a few seconds of the actual show (even though it's played in Germany for about 5 months).

In terms of the score, the advertising features only the song, "Eye of the Tiger". The staging is never shown within the context of the show. The ads have taken great care to replicate scenes from the movie using real world location shots - completely disassociating the song from its stage version.

Should I be enticed to see the show by the fact that the boxing ring is regulation sized? It scares me to think that including that fact in the press release might be an example of putting their "best" foot forward...

Loved Ragtime and will admit I enjoyed Seussical but other than that no other shows of theirs.

I've been contemplating who the fans of Rocky the movie are and if they are going to be drawn to seeing not only the story but it as a musical. Humm...NOPE.

I am also not beyond thinking a musical originating in Germany might be good just not sure how many have been successful with that as starting point. Have there been others?
