"Streisand has a full plate this fall. While preparing for Skinny and Cat she has those dates at Brooklyn's new Barclay Center, already sold out. And she stars with Seth Rogen in The Guilt Trip coming out for Christmas. There's also talk of recording a duets album. And she still has Gypsy on her docket. Nothing like staying busy!"

It's going to take a lot of CGI to make her look like June and Louise's mother and not their grandmother, they might as well make it an animated movie

Perhaps she should re-watch Mame with Lucy before she does this. It could prevent similar reviews.

Would be more fun to see her redo DOLLY, maybe for TV. She's very right now. Hey, let her have a go at one or two of the Merman add-on, why not? That ain't happening, but it makes more sense.

If she did a definitive GYPSY recording, we could accept a sterling studio performance of the score. But why ask the audience to put aside the age problems for 2/3 of the story? Only the final 15 minutes would be really right. I can't even see her pulling off the top of Act 2 with the Hollywood blondes. And if we get a whiff of the Lucy filter on her face, the entire thing collapses in self-indulgence. It's still a strange idea, and I'm surprised she doesn't know it. But surely if it's still in the pipeline, they cannot wait another 6-9 months. It's hard to discuss this without sounding ageist, yet this is one case where the material cannot be supported if we're asked to suspend our disbelief so totally.

I don't even think I'd want her recording of the score. She hasn't been able to let go and let loose since the 70s. Rose's turn would become an exercise in restraint with occasional schtik thrown in to replace the emotion. "didja hear me say it vas my toin?! So vadda ya doin' on my rrrunvay?"

^ LOL

A restrained and aged Streisand in "Funny Rose!"

This project will never happen. They will indulge her until finally the studio puts on the brakes. As soon as they realize the joke's on them and they stand to lose millions at the box office, they'll pull the plug.

Despite the naysayers, I am still interested in how this whole project develops and hope that there will be occasional threads on the topic. It is so outlandish that it must be true. Remember, truth is stranger than fiction.

Will it be a mess? God yes! But maybe a fun one? Apparently, they have a script that they like and everyone seems to still really want to do it. I won't lie, Babs looks damn good for her age, but, at most she can pass for 50 on screen.

What this really needs is a visionary director who can sculpt Babs into the perfect Rose. I don't want this to become a vanity project for her.

Have you guys seen Babs lately?

Whether it's a deal she did with the Devil; Botox; or an optical illusion, the 70 year old singer is looking FABULOUS these days:

She can pull off Mama Rose if she can put off looking like a 70 year old a bit longer, me thinks. She looks great.

Also who the hell believed her as a call girl in NUTS
as interesting looking as she is she is not pretty
and who would pay for someone who looks like her.
(maybe a street ho but not a call girl LOL)

When NUTS came out a friend said, "The only thing people will pay Streisand $500 to do with her mouth is sing."

Hilarious. La Streisand actually has PhotoShopped the photos posted on her own website. Those photos of her on that link posted above have been so obviously PhotoShopped she looks like a doll. Oy vey!

This is what Barbra actually looks like today. Yes, she's wearing her face/neck straps, but at leaset the face looks natural for her age:

I was, to say the least not enthused about this, but as time goes by I really think it could prove to be a great movie, and that Streisand in spite of her years could be convincing.

As long as she has the right direction - not her! - and I would love to see Alfred Molina and Anna Kendrick as her Herbie and Louise.

I hope the poster tagline instead of the normal "curtain up!" or "light the lights!" is simply:

"For ME!!"

I think artscallion's comment above is not only correct, but more to the point than how Streisand looks. (For the record, I think she looks great for her age, but hardly like the mother of two small children.)

In a musical (as in opera), voice = character. And careful crooning isn't Rose's character.

Bring on Robert Zemeckis as the director and her age won't matter. He'll just do motion capture and make her look like a soulless cartoon for two hours.

I renew my request to cast the strippers as

Mazeppa - Elaine Stritch
Elektra - Angela Lansbury
Tessie - Chita Rivera

I'm the first one to be bitchy and jokey about things but I'm still excited about this. Everyone always talks about "Geez! It's a musical! You're supposed to suspend belief about some things!" but not with this? Movie makeup will make Barbra look fantastic and age appropriate and she'll win her Oscar and go kn every talk show and talk about how it was for to "let loose" and be this character and what it taught her about letting go in her own life and blah blah blah.

Oh and I think Elliot Gould needs to be Mr. Goldstone.
