I know there was an article saying that Patti Lupone's "Gypsy" might tranfer to the West End and I know that there is a West End board, but I'd like to talk about Patti Lupone in general. Do you all think she should move on from this musical? She's already played Rose three times: once in the Ravinia Festival, once in Encores, and on Broadway. Now she may do it in the West End. Do you all think she needs to move on?

No, if only because this means they might film it.

She's hardly a Topol or Ted Neeley.

Exactly, Kad.

Mama Rose is Patti's dream role and probably the role for which she's received the most acclaim since Evita. London would be lucky to have her.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I know there are people here who complain that GYPSY has had too many Broadway revivals, but it has not been done all that frequently in London. The Lansbury production was London's first chance to see the show (Merman never toured with it there) and neither the Tyne Daly nor Bernadette Peters revivals transferred. SO if Lupone is willing, and they can get the money and a theatre I'd say go for it!

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

That would be like saying, that LuPone needs to "MOVE ON" from "Evita," and never sing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" in concert again.

Makes no sense whatsoever.

It's not like she's been playing the role for years and years and years...it's her dream role like others have said and she gave a fantastic performance. If the show transfers to London and she wants to go with it, good for her.

London loves her. If they want to put up the show, I say she should do it.
but secretly, I really want her to be Mrs. Anna Madrigal in the Tales of the City musical. give her a great mumu and couple of fantastic songs, some witty/funny line, & a chance to cry when her lover dies. :)

A la the Merman revival? "Granny Get Your Gun?"

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

What, and play Miss Mazeppa instead?

Though that would be hilarious.

I think she's just following Bernadette Peters' career, backwards.

If she sings "Children Will Listen" at that Sondheim tribute, I'm going to laugh my ass off.

London was where Laurents wanted to go in the first place, so this could very well happen.

If the show does transfer, I think Elaine Paige should get a chance at this role.

Or maybe Glen Close?
