It just doesn't seem substantial enough for me, even if it is good. Maybe they should have a Best Musical-lite category. (I am paraphrasing a friend who saw it in Cambridge, did enjoy it, but felt there was just not enough to it to justify Broadway prices and commuting in from the suburbs to see.

I agree with you. Given what type of musicals won the Tony in that category in the past several years, Six doesn't seem to have the same depth and weight. And it's not only because it's short and has a concert format.I've looked through tons of the Six videos on social media and Youtube and it just doesn't look like something of the same caliber as Hadestown, DEH or The Band's visit. The score is great and catchy, but the rest... Nevertheless, I hope to like it,I'm seeing it during previews in February."

There is plenty of depth and a range of serious issues covered.

It has just as much depth as any of the shows you mentioned, if you're smart enough to pick them all up.
"

I'm looking forward for the level of my intelligence to be determined by this show BEST MUSICAL 2020

I saw Mrs Doubtfire, and while it should do ok business, it ain't winning anything.
None of the songs are anywhere near the quality of Something Rotten. They are all terrible.
People will see this for nostalgia for the film,
then Rob Mclure and that's it. It will get the family audience that kept shows like School of Rock or Matilda running, but it is nowhere near as good as either of those.

As much as people on here hate on Moulin Rouge, it is a thousand times better that Mrs Doubtfire. Maybe a million times better.

The off-broadway production elements of Sing Street were sloppy. It doesn't have an original score, and it isn't as funny as Mrs Doubtfire. But, the songs it does have from its movie version are better than any in Mrs Doubtfire.

Don't kill me please. I actually think The Lightning Thief has a good score. It's what I liked most about the show when I saw it in a good and non expensive seat.

I’d agree! I didn’t see it but I like the score!

It’s def. a weird season

''I actually think The Lightning Thief has a good score.''

It's worthy of a Tony nom. I really like ''Bring on the Monsters.''

I hope it's not bumped out of the Score category, especially by the music from a play. To me, writing a set of songs (for characters) in a musical is different than writing music that accompanies a drama.

Meantime, any word on ''Almost Famous''? ''Mr. Saturday Night''?

Could they be coming this season? They could be game-changers.

I think all the theatres are occupied now. As much as I'd love to see Almost Famous get here, it might have to wait till next season.

I am having massive flash backs here of the season of DEH vs. Comet vs. Come From Away vs. whoever that fourth one was but it didn't matter cus it was between the other three anyway. And that's what I think it is at the moment, a 3 horse race that almost parallels that race back then.

You got your big, loud, colorful good time with some deeper tones left behind in the end. WAS Comet. NOW Moulin Rouge.
You got your buzzed about out of town darling that came out of seemingly no where and from an unexpected place. WAS Come From Away. NOW Six.
You got your highly praised off Broadway indie transfer that captured the critics then and will likely do so again. WAS DEH. NOW Girl From...

So will history repeat itself? Who knows but we can't count on or even make a call on Flying Over Sunset. As it's coming in here with so little known about it. It could sweep in as the must see musical surprise of the season. Or it could be a massive cold open misfire. There is just too little of it out there to get a feel for it's chances yet.

Also. Bonus commentary. If folks want to say "Six is more a concert then a musical" then would you say the same about Hedwig? Hedwig is a musical that is setup from the start as a concert where the artist reveals all through songs with banter in between. Six is the same exact thing only it is not one persons story, it's six people sharing the stage.

My Predictions:
Six

Jagged Little Pill

Tina

Moulin Rouge

Girl From..

Winner: Six. Honestly I would be very, very surprised if Six didn't win. The only show I can see it losing to is Jagged Little Pill.

Nonsense.  I can definitely see SIX going the route of BE MORE CHILL (or LIGHTNING THIEF) and having a small (bet VOCAL) following on social media with the millennial fangurls -- but their (over)enthusiasm will likely not translate into actual full-price ticket sales.

Granted, I didn’t see either, but if both Summer and The Cher Show failed to land nominations for best Musical, I’m not sure Tina’s odds are much better.

Agreed. Neither BMC or TLT came to Broadway riding a the wave of mostly positive reviews. Six does. I think it will most likely earn a nomination.

I liked JLP. I enjoyed it immensely more than TINA, but I can’t see if winning best musical. If a jukebox musical is going to win, I think it’ll either be Moulin Rouge! or GFTNC.

I was also going to say Jersey Boys. Plus haven’t some revues using pre-existing music won as well?

Yes, but Fosse and Jerome Robbins Broadway were the greatest "hits" of a choreographer rather than a composer.

This is ludicrous. Comparing SIX to either of those 2 shows makes no sense. SIX is coming to Broadway with rave reviews and sell out crowds from both the West End and out of town here in the US. I have no idea what you're talking about it, but there is no logic in comparing SIX to either of the two shows you mentioned.

Hopefully Sing Street, Moulin Rouge, or Six (the order of my favorites, Sing Street being #1)

They've hedged their bets if it doesn't do well by already selling the Chicago dates from July onwards. If it's not doing well enough to stay open they'll simply say it was a limited 6 month run on Broadway and move onto a sure thing in Chicago and no doubt tour the rest of the country after that.

It's a pretty cheap show to run so they could always bring it back Off Broadway if there is a demand and have a very successful longer run.

That is basically what it does in London now as it is only in a 350 seat theatre here.

To be honest I don't really understand the love for Six. While the songs are incredibly catchy, they have absolutely mediocre lyrics that make it a little hard to listen to. I'd be surprised if this survives for a long time with these high ticket prices

You're right...listening to a few songs is exactly the same as seeing a show performed live with amazing performances, choreography, lighting and a hilarious script.

You probably shouldn't go then...

Oh well, back to the palace!

Well, if I'm going to spend the money to see a show, I'm going to look into it first and see if it's something worth spending money on. The cast album and the megamixes on YouTube are what's available to see/hear right now and based on those, the lyrics seem poorly written in my opinion. The costumes look fun and the performances look fine but the lyrics truly seem bad
