Understandable move on Mirvish's part. Re: JCS being the only US tour, isn't OKLAHOMA part of the tour as well?

It is, however that dates are for May/June, so not affected by the new start. It seems that (for now) the shows scheduled for 2021 will stay with the same dates, but the others from the fall will change.

A friend of mine on the "Frozen" tour just said the show is on hiatus until the end of August.

The national tour of Cats officially announced today that it too will be closing. Hoping it’s early enough that seasons including Cats might find a replacement.

Just kidding! Re-read the article and it says the 20/21 cast of the tour will go on as planned

Just heard from an industry friend that Tootsie is going out Non-Union.

^ I don’t think that’s true......they already had Equity auditions back in February. Some offers already went out. There would be MAJOR backlash if the tour was going out non-Equity after already casting Equity actors. I know that something is going on with the tour, as a few friends who were supposed to go out with it announced they no longer are, but I just assumed that meant the tour was cancelled/postponed.

Wow, that’s terrible. Those poor actors. I honestly hope the tour just ends up not happening in that case. And I don’t even mind non-Equity tours. I think they have their place and benefits. But this is just.......awful.

I’m not sure how this works. Would the equity cast be eligible to try out for the non-equity tour? I know in most cases, equity cast members might not try out for non-equity roles as they pay less and aren’t necessarily as impressive on a resume. But in the current and upcoming climate, a job is a job.

Equity performers are not allowed to perform in non Equity tours. If they choose to do so and get caught, they will lose Equity membership and most likely be barred from ever joining the union again.

Do you think given these unprecedented times, Equity could amend their rules momentarily?

I don’t foresee it happening. Honestly, even with the climate we’re in, there aren’t too many Equity actors who’d be willing to join a non-Equity tour anyway. The schedules are typically rough, you travel long hours on a bus, and the pay is abysmal compared to even some of the low tier SETA contracts. But I can only speak for myself and the experiences I’ve had with Equity VS Non-Equity tours.

The show could’ve tried to work with Equity to see if they could’ve worked out a deal. Instead, Equity had no idea until after the fact.
The tour itinerary looks quite nice. A lot of top tier houses and several multi week stops. The show could very well end up making presenters and producers a lot of money and all those actors are now out of good jobs.

After looking up the company producing the Tootsie tour, I can’t say I’m surprised that all this is going on.

Yeah it’s very trash. But what can we do? Boycott the show? It’s really frustrating!

This is a shame about Tootsie.  It is part of Orlando's series and a 300 mile roundtrip that I was willing to do.  Maybe now, not so much.  I don't feel like paying high prices for a show that I would have probably had more bang for the buck in the original equity tour.  Most of the people in the audience will never know that if the nonequity tour takes place, they are not getting what they originally paid for.  Especially when it is the first national tour of a recent musical.

Does this indicate Summer is going non-equity?

So BC just announced that any large scale events are cancelled until we are in “Stage 4”... which means we need a vaccine, or treatment, or massive herd immunity.

Not confident in our 20/21 Vancouver season at all now.

at this point, any tour date is (at best) aspirational.

I was going to say the same thing. I think the only one we may get is Hamilton as it’s scheduled for next June. Our province is showing great promise with flattening the curve With less than 25 new cases a day and 3-5 deaths and they are still saying it will be a while for large gatherings to resume

Yeah honestly. Hamilton is also the only one I think could still happen... but even so, unsure how it would work with borders (assume we are open for international by then)... would Hamilton reschedule everything as I assume they’ll be not running for quite sometime and will need rehearsal and such...

Tours are an unknown beast right now.
