The Baltimore Opera Company has declared that it will liquidate. It was only three months ago the company declared bankruptcy, but according to CNN.com, 'Allan Jensen, chairman of the opera's board, said the recession 'was the nail in the coffin.'

Laurel Mill Playhouse, 508 Main Street, Laurel, Md. will hold auditions for 6 men and 15 women, ages 25 to 55, on Sunday, March 8 at 2:00 pm and Tuesday, March 10 at 7pm. Director Marie Sproul will have sides available for cold readings from the script of Pillow Talk. Produced by special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing Company, Pillow Talk will run May 1 through May 24 on Friday and Saturday evenings with two selected Sunday matinees and one selected Thursday evening performance. The 200-voice National Christian Choir (NCC) will perform at 6 p.m. March 8 in Baker Memorial Chapel on campus. Admission is free, but tickets must be reserved in advance. Directed by C. Harry Causey of Sykesville, Md., the choir comprised of members of more than 100 churches will perform Beautiful Savior,The Lord is My Strength and My Song, and We Declare Your Majesty.

Loch Raven High School is pleased to announce its annual spring musical Rodger and Hammerstein's Cinderella to be performed March 5, 6, and 7 at 7:30 PM. Directed by Ms. Erin E. Confair, Cinderella will be performed in the school's auditorium. The production has been a huge undertaking for this year's talented cast of students ranging from 14-18 years old. 'This is the best show we have put on at Loch Raven for several years,' describes senior Tim Hamel (Prince Charming). This diverse cast of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors has been dedicated to bringing this classic fairy tale to life.

The McDaniel College Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa presents 'Fugues for Multi-Species Living,' a lecture by Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Anna Tsing, at 8 p.m. March 5 on campus in McDaniel Lounge. Tsing's research on a high-value wild mushroom called matsutake explores a fundamental question, 'How can humans live well with other species?' Her lecture ushers audiences into a world where species live not just for themselves but also in relation to each other. 'In Japan, matsutake live with red pines and red pines, in turn, thrive with human disturbance,' Tsing says. 'This lecture offers a tour through Japanese village forests to listen to the histories co-existing species might tell.'
