The Way Off Broadway Children's Theatre, the only theatre of its kind in the area - offering lunch matinee shows geared for children and their families - continues its 2010 Season with its spring production of Aladdin, which runs through August 8, 2010. The 2010 Season marks the Children's Theatre's fifteenth year of bringing children's stories to life on the stage in Frederick.
Irene Lewis Steps Down As CenterStage's Artistic Director

Irene Lewis, Artistic Director of CENTERSTAGE, and Jay Smith, President of the theater's Board of Trustees, announced today that Ms. Lewis will leave CENTERSTAGE in June 2011 after completion of the 2010-11 season, which will mark her 19th year as Artistic Director.
Laurel Mill's Teen Theater Hosts Auditions For A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM 4/29, 5/1

Laurel Mill Playhouse, 508 Main Street, Laurel, Md. will hold auditions for 23 teenagers on Thursday, April 29 at 7pm and Saturday, May 1 at 10am for this Shakespearean comedy. Director Michael Hartsfield requests the teenagers auditioning have twenty to thirty lines of any monologue from a Shakespeare play prepared for the audition. Memorization is not necessary.

Just announced, an additional performance has been added for Tracie Thoms' Cabaret performance, on Wednesday, April 28th at 8 pm. A Baltimore native and School for the Arts graduate, Tracie previously appeared at CENTERSTAGE in the 2007-08 First Look reading of Lynn Nottage's By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, and the 2001-02 production of A Raisin in the Sun. The cabaret performance will include a mix of contemporary hits, standards, and a sprinkling of songs from Broadway.

Honorees will workshop their plays for three days with professional theater artists, which leads up to staged reading of the plays at the Festival on Monday, May 3rd, 2010. Additional applicants will have a workshop and reading of their play at their school; others receive an honorable mention.

The Fells Point Corner Theatre of Baltimore will present R.C. Sherriff's JOURNEY'S END, opening May 7, 2010. Set in the trenches at Saint-Quentin, France, in 1918 towards the end of the First World War, JOURNEY'S END gives a glimpse into the experiences of the officers of a British Army infantry company in World War I. The entire story plays out in the officers' dugout over four days from March 18th to March 21st, 1918. JOURNEY'S END won both the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play and The Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Play.

One gains an interesting perspective on a play based on Sophocles' 'Electra' when one watches in the company of a Greek. The angst, anger, and adultery that run through 'The Mai' are certainly appropriate, but where's the bloody body? If a play finds its roots in a Greek tragedy, somebody has to die.
