Fells Point Corner Theater to Open 2013-14 Season with DURANG DURANG, 9/13-10/13

Fells Point Corner Theater opens its 2013-2014 season with the master of the absurd and the unconventional with Christopher Durang's DURANG DURANG. The show will run Friday, September 13th to Sunday, October 13th, 2013. Durang's jagged satire unapologetically cuts right through the fat and the flesh, exposing to the bones the various styles of acclaimed playwrights like Tennessee Williams, Sam Shepard, and David Mamet. With six complete acts packaged into a single evening, no one is safe from the dissecting eye of Christopher Durang.

Laurel Mill Playhouse, located at 508 Main Street in Laurel, MD., presents a lively collection of nine one act plays for their One Act Festival. Performances run Friday, September 6 & Saturday, September 7 at 8pm, Sunday, September 8 at 2pm and Friday, September 13 & Saturday, September 14 at 8pm and Sunday September 15 at 2pm. A different set of one acts each weekend.

There are touching songs of love and loss, songs that transform our mood in an instant, songs that make us smile and those we swear shaped the people that we have become. Wendy Baird will stumble on happiness by sharing some of her favorite standards, contemporary show tunes, and light-hearted romps. It will be a fun evening of song and patter, poignancy and humor sure to entertain, provoke and inspire. Brad Hunter will join her on piano, Al Hannagan on guitar, as well as some other very special musical guests yet to be announced.

Maryland Ensemble Theatre Announces Fall Class Schedule

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) is proud to announce its fall schedule of classes for The Ensemble School. Taught by working actors and directors, The Ensemble School is a training ground for professional and aspiring actors of all skill levels with classes for students from age seven to adult. All classes are 12-week sessions that begin on or after September 9, meet once a week and are limited to 12 students. All classes are held at Maryland Ensemble Theatre located in the historic FSK Hotel at 31 W Patrick Street in downtown Frederick. 'We provide a safe and productive training ground for actors of all ages -- a place where they can take risks and learn the skills they'll need for a life on the stage', said Gene Fouche, the Director of The Ensemble School.

Prince George's Little Theatre will lead off its 54th season with the madcap comedy "Twentieth Century" at the Bowie Playhouse at White Marsh Park August 30 through September 15. The six Friday and Saturday evening performances are August 30 and 31, and September 6, 7, 13, and 14 at 8 p.m. The three matinee performances are Sundays September 1, 8 and 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20, with discount tickets available at $15 for seniors and those 18 and under. No one writes theater like the Ancient Greeks; after all, they invented it (at least the western variety). I was reminded of this once again as I found myself lost in the high drama of Glass Mind Theatre's adaptation of Antigone, one of Sophocles' three plays revolving around Oedipus (he of psychological complex fame), king of Thebes, who unknowingly killed his father and then married his mother. And it only gets better from there.
