Afterthoughts is an original one act play from emerging Baltimore playwright, Alec Lawson. Lawson, a recent graduate of Loyola College and the National Theatre Institute, has been a constant fixture in the Baltimore theatre scene working with local companies Run of the Mill, Glass Mind Theatre, Vagabonds, and the Strand Theater Company. "I have felt compelled to share this story for a long time, and have recently found the courage to do it. This play is constantly evolving. I am excited to share it with the community I love" says Alec Lawson.
Afterthoughts is based on the devastating effects of a school shooting. Inspired by the interviews that took place with survivors of the Virginia Tech tragedy, Afterthoughts is a deeply honest and intriguing look at the most difficult question posed to those who remain - are we able to forgive? The stage at the Strand has been designed to place the actors and the audience right in the middle of the disarray, posing the question, giving us a chance to possibly answer it for ourselves. Lawson chose to surround himself with a young cast and crew feeling they could appreciate the delicacy of a topic so close to this generation. As the Strand enters its third season, it continues to support local artists. The Strand recently finished the Friends and Neighbors Festival: Works by Women. Over the past two years the Strand has assisted small companies with gifted space, offered 75% of all opportunities within the theater to women, served over 2500 patrons, and played an integral role in the revitalization of Station North Arts & Entertainment District.Videos
