Summer holiday is just around the corner. It’s a great time to catch a show with friends, family, loved ones, or just by yourself. There’s a number of shows happening this summer in the Greater Jakarta Area, from an original musical, adaptation of beloved IPs, to a Broadway-licensed production. There’s something for everyone.

Musikal Keluarga Cemara (“Cemara Family the Musical”, with Cemara literally meaning pine tree) held its gala night performance on Wednesday, June 19th at Ciputra Artpreneur ahead of its opening night on Friday, June 21st. This musical, by Visinema and Indonesia Kaya in collaboration with TEMAN, adapts the quintessential Indonesian family story of Keluarga Cemara for the stage. The show is planned to be one of the longest-running shows in recent years, running from June 21 to July 15 for a total of 30 shows in 25 days.

Patjarmerah, the Small Literacy Festival and Traveling Book Market of the Archipelago, is now going to Jakarta, opening up more space for children, youth, and family readers.

Teater Koma, supported by Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation, presents its latest production titled MATAHARI PAPUA. This play, Teater Koma's 230th production, is the last script written by the late Norbertus Riantiarno, also known as Nano Riantiarno . The performance will be held from Friday, June 7 to Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki.

The upcoming Musikal Keluarga Cemara by Visinema Studios, www.indonesiakaya.com, and Teater Musikal Nusantara has announced their presale period and prices at a press conference held on Thursday, May 30. The presale offers discounted tickets and will run from June 1 through 6 at Loket.com.

The original musical Kapan Resign launched their Original Cast Recording on Labor Day (May 1st) 2024. The production team held a launching event at Lucy Beer Mart, Kemang, attended by the show’s cast and creatives, as well as media and partners.

The community theater Center Stage Community (Censtacom) will debut their next musical show Thearapy on June 8 and 9 at Teater Salihara. The show explores various problems faced by theater performers. The show will use various songs from musical theater as a way to express and work through their problems.

The theatrical performance 'Suara Areta' was succesfully held at Gripa Studio, South Jakarta, on Thursday, May 2, 2024. The performance, a culmination of the final project (non-thesis) by three students of Communication Science with a concentration in Performing Arts Communication from LSPR Jakarta, captivated and inspired the audience by addressing the impact experienced by survivors of sexual violence.

Visinema Studios and www.indonesiakaya.com are collaborating with Teater Musikal Nusantara (TEMAN) to bring the beloved Indonesian family story, 'Keluarga Cemara,' to the stage as a musical. The musical promises to turn the heartwarming and laughter-filled story of Abah, Emak, Euis, and Ara into a spectacular stage show.

Through a press release, Areta Project announces 'Suara Areta,' a theater production addressing the issue of sexual violence impact through captivating narratives, with a focus on the role of family in handling such cases. This intimate theater experience will take place on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 18:30, at Gripa Studio, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

On April 23rd 2024, Yayasan Kanker Indonesia (Indonesian Cancer Foundation) produced the original musical Musikal Masih Ada (Still Remains the Musical), in collaboration with Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakpro, and new performing arts company Adpro. The musical ran for two shows at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Jakarta.

The training program Camp Broadway Indonesia (licensee of New York-based Camp Broadway) will send five students to perform at The New York Pops Birthday Gala, following their debut in 2023. The five chosen youth performers will go on the prestigious Carnegie Hall stage on April 29 to perform with Broadway stars as part of the international Camp Broadway Ensemble, honoring music icon Clive Davis.

As part of their 10th anniversary celebration, Ciputra Artpreneur is bringing One Piece Music Symphony - 25th Anniversary World Tour to Indonesia.

What did our critic think of MUSIKAL MEGA MEGA at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta? On February 24th and 25th, Teater Keliling celebrated their 50th anniversary by putting on a production of Musikal Mega Mega at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta. The show is based on the non-musical play Mega-Mega by writer and director Arifin C. Noer. This musical adaptation was directed by Rudolf Puspa, with original music by Rudolf Puspa and Dolfry Inda Suri.

The performing arts education Arendi returned to the stage on January 27 and 28 2024 with The Addams Family musical at Teater Besar, Taman Ismail Marzuki. This production marks their return after 2019’s Into the Woods Jr. Arendi collaborates with leading Indonesian musical theatre creatives for the show, including Pasha Prakasa as show director, Andrea Miranda as vocal director, and Putri Indam Kamila as the choreographer.
