Junior version of Sondheim classic's musical, INTO THE WOODS JR., will come to life on August 25th, 2019, at the USMAR ISMAIL THEATRE HALL, Jakarta. This production is arranged by RELASI NADA DUNIA (RND), a company offering training and education in the subject of performing arts. INTO THE WOODS JR. will be their inaugural public musical theatre performance.

Pulitzer winning rock musical NEXT TO NORMAL is not the most obvious show to bring to Jakarta, much less by young actors still in school or college age. But despite the idiosyncrasy, musical community JAKARTA YOUTH FOR PERFORMING ARTS (JYPA) together with suicide prevention community INTO THE LIGHT tackled the challenge to highlight the issue of mental health awareness a?" by rocking out the stage.

NEXT TO NORMAL, the award-winning rock musical about a suburban family dealing with mental health illness, will be performed at the USMAR ISMAIL THEATRE HALL, Jakarta on Tuesday, August 20th 2019. This musical is produced by JAKARTA YOUTH FOR PERFORMING ARTS (JYPA) and officially licensed through Music Theatre International (MTI). JYPA is also collaborating with mental health and suicide prevention community INTO THE LIGHT.

On May 23rd, a new contemporary ballet show, KINTSUGI, ran for one show only at Teater Kecil, Jakarta. It is the brainchild of dancer Elhaq Latief under the banner of ELHAQ LATIEF PRODUCTION and tells the story of a romance that devolves into an abusive relationship. The show is followed with a discussion session with National Commission on Violence Against Women, Komnas Perempuan, and abuse survivor advocacy foundation, Yayasan Pulih.

SPOTLIGHT THEATRE will bring an original Indonesian musical this August. Titled KIRANA: JADILAH IMPIAN SEJATIMU ('KIRANA: Be Your True Dream'), the production will run for three showtimes through August 23rd-25th at GEDUNG KESENIAN JAKARTA.

South Jakarta-based KELOMPOK POJOK will perform PADA SUATU HARI ('ONE DAY') on Friday, August 16th, 2019 at the Gelanggang Remaja Jakarta Selatan Bulungan auditorium. The show is part of South Jakarta Theater Festival 2019.

In May of 2009, a little new Fox series called Glee aired for the first time. It exposed theatrically-inclined Indonesian youths to the highly energetic and often drama-prone art of show choir. A decade later, JKT MOVEMENT OF INSPIRATION (JKTMoveIn) held their inaugural competition JAKARTA SHOW OFF, in which bands, dance groups, and show choirs showcase the hidden talents of Jakarta and beyond.

The students of London School of Performing Arts' Performing Arts Communication major of batch 20, class 2B (hence LSPR PAC 20-2B) will bring the musical SIDE SHOW on August 8th and 9th, 2019, at the AMANI PALLADIUM THEATRE, Bekasi. This musical is part of the 12th LSPR PAC FEST where LSPR PAC students will produce and perform a variety of shows.

Theatre community JAKARTA PLAYERS and social justice organization 100% MANUSIA will collaborate in HEAR US OUT, a play reading and panel discussion about mental health, social inclusion, and sexual abuse. The event will take place on Wednesday, 27 July, from 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM at Ruang Komunal Indonesia, One Pacific Place, Jakarta.

Performing arts company JKT MOVEMENT OF INSPIRATION (JKTMoveIn) will hold the competition JAKARTA SHOW OFF, on Saturday, July 13th, 2019, at CIPUTRA ARTPRENEUR, Jakarta. Finalists from band, dance, and show choir categories will compete for monetary prizes totaling IDR 80.000.000 as well as a featured role in JKTMoveIn's upcoming production.

The timeless story of Annie and the orphans are back on stage in Jakarta, after 2016's limited run of the Broadway cast. This time, however, the musical is produced by Indonesians, specifically by the performing arts training center Hi Jakarta Production School. Furthermore, Hi Jakarta licensed the junior version -- known as Annie Jr. -- for four showings at May 11th and 12th at the Usmar Ismail Hall, Jakarta.

On May 4th, 2019, private university Universitas Prasetiya Mulya held the promotional event AKSARA 2019 at Galeri Indonesia Kaya, Jakarta. AKSARA 2019 is a prelude to the original musical SANSKERTA 2019: ARJUNA, an upcoming original musical.

Jakarta Youth for Performing Arts' (JYPA) newest project is an original musical titled STILL LIFE: THE STORY OF VINCENT VAN GOGH, based on the life of Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. STILL LIFE will run for three shows on Wednesday and Thursday, June 19th and 20th, at the USMAR ISMAIL THEATRE HALL, Jakarta Selatan.

A new original musical, KELUARGA MILENIAL (Millennial Family), will debut on Thursday, May 16th, at the Gedung Pertunjukan Wayang Orang Bharata. The show is the brainchild of ASR Production, a production team comprised of three London School of Public Relations students: Allyana Maghfira, Sarah Dwi A., and Reska Primadita.

Reginald Rose's modern classic 12 ANGRY JURORS (originally '12 Angry Men') will go on stage at the Theatre Room of GAP BUILDING, Universitas Kristen Maranatha, Bandung, on Friday, May 20th.  This production is a joint effort by SAINT Club - an English performing art club - and the English Department of Maranatha.

ELHAQ LATIEF PRODUCTION, a new performing arts company spearheaded by dancer-choreographer Elhaq Latief, will produce their debut show this month. Titled KINTSUGI, the three-movement ballet performance will run at TEATER KECIL, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, on May 23 starting at 7 PM.

New England Conservatory student and musical theatre actress PEPITA SALIM is one of the few Indonesians working professionally in an US production - the national tour of Rodgers and Hammerstein's THE KING AND I. The show will run at the LEXINGTON OPERA HOUSE, Kentucky, on April 26th to 28th.

Only a few performance venues in Indonesia can match Ciputra Artpreneur's sophistry and prestige. The theatre has hosted international engagements throughout the years. And on Saturday, April 20th, 2019, its stage transformed into the colorful world of PULAU ELEGI ('Island of Elegy'), an ambitious musical production by SEP THEATRE (a subsidiary of THE SOMEDAY PROJECT) collaborating with more than a hundred Indonesian high school students. This is their seventh production, following last year's KISAH ALAM BARA.

As part of their 50th anniversary celebration, the community theatre JAKARTA PLAYERS (JP) is producing LONGING FOR LOVE, a presentation of five one-act plays. The show will take place on May 24-26 at Institut Francais d'Indonesie, Thamrin, Jakarta.

Sureq Galigo, an epic creation myth from the Bugis people of South Sulawesi, might not ring a bell to most Indonesians. But since 2004, American playwright Robert Wilson has adapted one of its stories into a theatrical experience called I LA GALIGO. And after international runs in 9 countries and 12 cities, I LA GALIGO will return to Indonesian stage at the Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta, this July.
