From 15–18 January 2026, Center Stage Community (Censtacom) presented its latest production, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Jakarta.

The performances continued with Maera, Dipo, Bimozeno, followed by Gilang Arga, Taufan Purbo, and Iwak the Rock Fish, keeping the energy consistently dynamic. A standout moment came when Gabriel Havrianto performed a tribute song to Titiek Puspa. His vocals were powerful, and overall, the vocal quality across performers remained consistently impressive.

On December 20, 2025, Teater SOIA held their first standalone performance at Teater Kecil, Taman Ismail Marzuki. Titled PINJAM DULU SERATUS (“Lend Me A Hundred”), it’s an original play tackling online gambling and online lending services, prevalent problems in modern day Indonesia.

On November 15th, 2025, the team from Broadway World Indonesia attended Teater Mantuli’s Lentera Harapan, the company’s third production, staged for its second show at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta. The show was directed by Khenny Gracia and produced by Robert Gunadi.

'Passport to Broadway' program, an international initiative designed to teach performing arts skills to aspiring artists, has opened enrollment for their summer 2026 course for students internationally, including Indonesia.

What did our critic think of FESTIVAL MUSIKAL INDONESIA at EKI Foundation?

On August 24, the theater production company Broadwayang put on their latest production, Mahar Kemerdekaan (“The Dowry of Independence”) at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta. It’s based on the true story of Indonesia’s founding fathers and how their love lives intertwine with the struggle for independence.

The acting studio Act’elier is currently conducting a 8-session offline course program by the name MEISNER MUSICALS: OVERTURE. The program is taught by Heriska Sutapha, a Designated Meisner Teacher, with a certification in Level 1 Meisner in Music Teacher. It bills itself as a way to be a “more instinctive, confident, and compelling version of yourself” as a performer.

On August 23 & 24 of 2025, a musical adaptation of the then-upcoming movie Pengin Hijrah (Want to Hijra) took to the stage. The movie itself was adapted from a novel of the same name.

The long-awaited album launch of singer-songwriter Sarah Eliza ended in a tragedy when she was found dead in her waiting room on the fourth floor of an upscale restaurant in Jakarta.

On 29–31 August 2025, Titimangsa returned to the stage with their 88th production, Bunga Penutup Abad, performed at Ciputra Artpreneur. This play is an intermedial adaptation from Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s novels Bumi Manusia (This Earth of Mankind) and Anak Semua Bangsa (Child of All Nations), directed by Wawan Sofwan. The team from BroadwayWorld Indonesia attended the performance on 30 August.

EKI Foundation and Indonesia Kaya held a press conference on 22 October 2025 on the upcoming Festival Musikal Indonesia (FMI). This annual celebration of Indonesian musicals will be held on 14 to 16 November at Taman Ismail Marzuki for the first time.

Recently, we see the rise of semi-immersive and immersive theater in Jakarta. From the wedding-musical Kapan Nikah, to Teater Pandora's penchant for playing with spaces, theatermakers are increasingly drawn to crafting more immersive experiences. More than a creative challenge, this different take on theater can also set show apart to cosmopolitans always looking for the next memorable experience.

For their 235th production, Teater Koma brought the play Mencari Semar onto the stage of Ciputra Artpreneur from August 13-17 of 2025. Written and directed by Rangga Riantiarno, this show had a vision of uniting Javanese mythology with a futuristic narrative, serving a story that is relevant to our present time.
