STMANIS - the theater club of BINUS University - will debut a new play SEMAYAM on November 29th at BINUS University Kampus Anggrek. This show will be their 54th production.  STMANIS has also teamed up with an NGO (non-governmental organization) as part of the show's social campaign.

SMILE MOTIVATOR, a theatre company focusing on inclusivity of the disability community, will perform their original musical THE JOURNEY at the DAGO TEA HOUSE theatre, Bandung. The production will incorporate both people with disabilities and allies in an exploration of movement, sound, and feeling.

TEMAN (Teater Musikal Nusantara) is bringing HAIRSPRAY to CIPUTRA ARTPRENEUR theater, Jakarta, on 21-22 December. TEMAN is teaming up with renowned local and international actors, including Morgan Oey and Lea Simanjuntak. Morgan and Lea shared their thoughts on Hairspray at a press conference last Thursday.

After their impressive debut with INTO THE WOODS last year, musical company TEMAN (Teater Musikal Nusantara) announces their 2019 show: HAIRSPRAY. As fitting of the musical's bombastic reputation, TEMAN is going bigger and glitzier. The show will take place in the grand 1.157-seater CIPUTRA ARTPRENEUR theatre and feature a celebrity heartthrob.

For their third annual concert, JAKSICAL went for a more intimate show with a handful of singers alongside a team of musicians, wrapped in a charming theme of globetrotting. The resulting exploration of beloved show tunes in JOURNEY THROUGH TIME 3: A MUSICAL EXPEDITION (JTT3) was a worthy addition to the community's growing accomplishments.

Performing art community D'ARTBEAT will debut original musical PERON ('TRAIN PLATFORM') at the GRAHA BHAKTI BUDAYA theater, Cikini, Jakarta on October 12 and 13.  The musical will run for three shows.

Despite its title, TEATER KELILING's THE GREAT RAHWANA focuses more on razzle-dazzle moments than consistently developing the titular character's duality. Yet the resulting extravaganza offers its own greatness. 

Stephen Sondheim's musical INTO THE WOODS JR. came to USMAR ISMAIL HALL, Jakarta, on August 25th, 2019. This production by RELASI NADA DUNIA (RND) featured child and teen musical actors from the greater Jakarta area in a fun fairy tale mishmash that rivals productions with adult performers.

TEATER KELILING, in association with event organizer KREASI IMAJI MAHESA, will present the stage musical THE GREAT RAHWANA. Based on the Indian legend of Ramayana (which has been ingrained into Javanese folklore for hundreds of years), this reexamination of the timeless narrative will take stage on September 21st  and 22nd at the CIPUTRA ARTPRENEUR theater, Jakarta.

Community theater Jakarta Performing Arts Community (JPAC) will bring Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's musical comedy COMPANY to Indonesia later this year. The MTI-licensed show will run on November 29th through December 1st at Teater Salihara, Jakarta.

Visiting the Great White Way is any musical theatre lover's dream. Last July, that dream came true for 13 winners of Indonesia Menuju Broadway (IMB) as they attended musical theatre workshop on Broadway. Now they return to perform WHAT I DID FOR LOVE, a musical showcase featuring Broadway hits.

It has been 14 years since poet and playwright Arifin C. Noer's passing, leaving behind a trove of cinematic and stage classics. One of those, the stage play PADA SUATU HARI is still relevant, if not even more so. KELOMPOK POJOK theatre must have thought the same as they walked on stage on August 16th. Their contemporary interpretation was adept and enjoyable.

Junior version of Sondheim classic's musical, INTO THE WOODS JR., will come to life on August 25th, 2019, at the USMAR ISMAIL THEATRE HALL, Jakarta. This production is arranged by RELASI NADA DUNIA (RND), a company offering training and education in the subject of performing arts. INTO THE WOODS JR. will be their inaugural public musical theatre performance.

Pulitzer winning rock musical NEXT TO NORMAL is not the most obvious show to bring to Jakarta, much less by young actors still in school or college age. But despite the idiosyncrasy, musical community JAKARTA YOUTH FOR PERFORMING ARTS (JYPA) together with suicide prevention community INTO THE LIGHT tackled the challenge to highlight the issue of mental health awareness a?" by rocking out the stage.

NEXT TO NORMAL, the award-winning rock musical about a suburban family dealing with mental health illness, will be performed at the USMAR ISMAIL THEATRE HALL, Jakarta on Tuesday, August 20th 2019. This musical is produced by JAKARTA YOUTH FOR PERFORMING ARTS (JYPA) and officially licensed through Music Theatre International (MTI). JYPA is also collaborating with mental health and suicide prevention community INTO THE LIGHT.

On May 23rd, a new contemporary ballet show, KINTSUGI, ran for one show only at Teater Kecil, Jakarta. It is the brainchild of dancer Elhaq Latief under the banner of ELHAQ LATIEF PRODUCTION and tells the story of a romance that devolves into an abusive relationship. The show is followed with a discussion session with National Commission on Violence Against Women, Komnas Perempuan, and abuse survivor advocacy foundation, Yayasan Pulih.
