Lawrence Arts Center Announces Their After-School Art Programs, 8/16-27

The Lawrence Arts Center (940 New Hampshire St., Lawrence) announces week-long after-school art programs for the weeks of August 16th and August 23rd. Classes will meet Mondays through Fridays from 4 to 5:30PM at the center. Cost is $60 per week and financial aid is still available.

Act II Playhouse has named Pam Dickler managing director of the professional theatre company. Originally from Bucks County, PA, Dickler has spent much of the past two decades as part of Chicago's thriving theatrical community as a producer, director, actor and writer.

El Dorado Musical Theatre Hosts Screening of 'Charlie's Closet,' 8/21

El Dorado Musical Theatre host a screening of 'Charlie's Closet' on Saturday, August 21st at 1PM. The screening will take place at the Jill Solberg Performing Arts Theater at Folsom High School (1655 Iron Point Rd, Folsom). Tickets are $7 at the door or online $7 plus a $0.50 convenience fee. This is a fundraiser to help support the Producer/Director of this independent film in future film making efforts as well as support for El Dorado Musical Theatre.

New York State Passes 2011 Budget Including Film Tax Credits

Late Tuesday, New York state lawmakers passed the $136 billion budget for the 2011 fiscal year. Within the budget, tax credits worth an annual $420 million were set for film and television production in the state.

Westport Country Playhouse present a Sunday Symposium with Tom Jones, book writer and lyricist of 'I Do! I Do!,' following the Sunday, August 15, 3 p.m. matinee performance of the joyful and touching musical spanning 50 years of marriage. Jones, along with music composer Harvey Schmidt, received an Obie Award and a Special Tony Award for 'The Fantasticks.' In 1999, their stars were added to the Off-Broadway Walk of Fame outside the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

MoMA Present 'The Original Copy: Photography of Scuptures' Exhibt

'The Original Copy: Photography of Sculpture, 1839 to Today' presents a critical examination of the intersections between photography and sculpture, exploring how one medium informs the analysis and creative redefinition of the other. On view at The Museum of Modern Art from August 1st through November 1st, the exhibition brings together over 300 photographs, magazines, and journals, by more than 100 artists, from the dawn of modernism to the present, to look at the ways in which photography at once informs and challenges the meaning of what sculpture is. The Original Copy is organized by Roxana Marcoci, Curator, Department of Photography, The Museum of Modern Art.

Starlight Theatre's THE PAJAMA GAME Ends Run

Starlight Musical Theatre announce the cast of THE PAJAMA GAME for Starlight's 2nd summertime show which will run from July 15th to August 1st. Leading off the romantic yet torn-apart lovers will be San Diego's own Courtney Corey as Babe Williams and native New Yorker Joey Elrose as Sid Sorokin (Bios of all cast listed below). The comedic and lovable couple, Hines and Gladys, will be played by Joe Joyce, a Broadway veteran, and Rae Henderson, another San Diego native, respectively.

El Teatro Campesino's CORRIDOS!!! TALES OF THE MEXICAN REVOLUTION ends

When Kinan Valdez, the producing artistic director of El Teatro Campesino (ETC), began planning El Teatro's 2010 season, he was inspired to use the working-title 'Raices/Roots' because many of the pieces this season are classic works-or inspired from the classic works-created in the beginnings of San Juan Bautista's world-renown, all original, theater company. At the same time, Valdez is also creating new works to add to the company's artistic arsenal. The newest work created by Valdez is ‘Corridos!!! Tales of the Mexican Revolution,' which begins June 18 at El Teatro Campesino's playhouse in San Juan Bautista.
