The Lawrence Arts Center (940 New Hampshire St., Lawrence) announces week-long after-school art programs for the weeks of August 16th and August 23rd. Classes will meet Mondays through Fridays from 4 to 5:30PM at the center. Cost is $60 per week and financial aid is still available.

The Jamie Baum Septet performs at Miles' Cafe (212 E. 52nd St., 3rd Fl., between 2nd & 3rd) on Monday, August 9th from 9:30 to 11:30PM. Cover is $10.

Act II Playhouse has named Pam Dickler managing director of the professional theatre company. Originally from Bucks County, PA, Dickler has spent much of the past two decades as part of Chicago's thriving theatrical community as a producer, director, actor and writer.

El Dorado Musical Theatre host a screening of 'Charlie's Closet' on Saturday, August 21st at 1PM. The screening will take place at the Jill Solberg Performing Arts Theater at Folsom High School (1655 Iron Point Rd, Folsom). Tickets are $7 at the door or online $7 plus a $0.50 convenience fee. This is a fundraiser to help support the Producer/Director of this independent film in future film making efforts as well as support for El Dorado Musical Theatre.

Late Tuesday, New York state lawmakers passed the $136 billion budget for the 2011 fiscal year. Within the budget, tax credits worth an annual $420 million were set for film and television production in the state.

The Morrison Center for the Performing Arts announces its 2010-2011 season schedule. Touring companies of THE COLOR PURPLE, GREASE, LEGALLY BLONDE, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, WICKED, and MAMMA MIA are scheduled to appear as well as local musical, ballet, and acting performances.

The Howard County Arts Council will hold its 21st annual Road to the Arts weekend on September 24th to the 26th. This event celebrates the beginning of the 2010-2011 gallery season and encourages art lovers to explore the breadth and diversity of visual arts opportunities in Howard County. Several galleries throughout the County will participate by hosting openings and other special events during Road to the Arts weekend. This year's participants include:

The 2010 New York International Fringe Festival presents TERMS OF DISMEMBERMENT, a new musical directed and choreographed by Hinton Battle (Three time Tony® Award Winner: Miss Saigon, The Tap Dance Kid, Sophisticated Ladies). TERMS OF DISMEMBERMENT has book and lyrics by Dorothy Marcic, music by Frank Sanchez and other music and lyrics by Mehr Mansuri.

The About Town Tours presents their monthly interactive murder mystery show entitled EVIL ON THE BEACH on Saturday, August 21st at 6:30PM. The show will be at Cafe' Central Restaurant and Bar at 1401 Central Avenue. Cost is $20 for the show only; patrons will pay for their dinners separately from show ticket.

Westport Country Playhouse present a Sunday Symposium with Tom Jones, book writer and lyricist of 'I Do! I Do!,' following the Sunday, August 15, 3 p.m. matinee performance of the joyful and touching musical spanning 50 years of marriage. Jones, along with music composer Harvey Schmidt, received an Obie Award and a Special Tony Award for 'The Fantasticks.' In 1999, their stars were added to the Off-Broadway Walk of Fame outside the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

Wild Beasts perform at the Highline Ballrom (431 W 16th St., between 9th and 10th) on Wednesday, August 11th. The concert starts at 9PM, with doors opening at 7PM. Tickets are $20.

Through Line Productions, fresh from their Fringe hit SHADES OF GREY, present FAT PIG from September 9th to the 18th. The producation will be at Theatre Ste. Caterine (264 Ste. Catherine St. East). Show times are Tuesdays to Saturdays at 8PM and Saturday matinees at 2PM.

On Q Productions holds its first audition of the season for the musical AIN'T MISBEHAVIN on Sunday, August 1st and Monday, August 2nd from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Spirit Square.

'The Original Copy: Photography of Sculpture, 1839 to Today' presents a critical examination of the intersections between photography and sculpture, exploring how one medium informs the analysis and creative redefinition of the other. On view at The Museum of Modern Art from August 1st through November 1st, the exhibition brings together over 300 photographs, magazines, and journals, by more than 100 artists, from the dawn of modernism to the present, to look at the ways in which photography at once informs and challenges the meaning of what sculpture is. The Original Copy is organized by Roxana Marcoci, Curator, Department of Photography, The Museum of Modern Art.

Starlight Musical Theatre announce the cast of THE PAJAMA GAME for Starlight's 2nd summertime show which will run from July 15th to August 1st. Leading off the romantic yet torn-apart lovers will be San Diego's own Courtney Corey as Babe Williams and native New Yorker Joey Elrose as Sid Sorokin (Bios of all cast listed below). The comedic and lovable couple, Hines and Gladys, will be played by Joe Joyce, a Broadway veteran, and Rae Henderson, another San Diego native, respectively.

When Kinan Valdez, the producing artistic director of El Teatro Campesino (ETC), began planning El Teatro's 2010 season, he was inspired to use the working-title 'Raices/Roots' because many of the pieces this season are classic works-or inspired from the classic works-created in the beginnings of San Juan Bautista's world-renown, all original, theater company. At the same time, Valdez is also creating new works to add to the company's artistic arsenal. The newest work created by Valdez is ‘Corridos!!! Tales of the Mexican Revolution,' which begins June 18 at El Teatro Campesino's playhouse in San Juan Bautista.

The Whole Backstage Theatre in Guntersville presents ONCE ON THIS ISLAND from July 23rd to the 31st. This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale 'The Little Mermaid' garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score. It is a story of life, pain, love, grief, faith, and hope.

The eclectic songbook of composer/lyricist Tyler Phillips returns to the Laurie Beechman Theater on August 2nd at 9:30 for an unforgettable evening of selections dedicated to the Greatest City on Earth. Oddfellows Playhouse's 22nd Children's Circus of Middletown presents EAT'S ALL GOOD on Friday, August 6th at 5 PM. The show will be at the Macdonough School (66 Spring Street). Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors. Reservations are not required.

The Alley Pond Environmental Center is hosting a blod drive on Thursday, August 26th from 2PM to 8PM. The location is 228-06 Northern Blvd in Douglaston, Queens. Each blood donation can help save up to three lives. The community hospitals are in need of donations. Participants must be 16 years old and older.
