Morrison Center for the Arts Releases 2010-2011 Schedule

The Morrison Center for the Performing Arts announces its 2010-2011 season schedule. Touring companies of THE COLOR PURPLE, GREASE, LEGALLY BLONDE, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, WICKED, and MAMMA MIA are scheduled to appear as well as local musical, ballet, and acting performances.

The Morrison Center is Idaho's most prestigious performance complex, nestled on the bank of the Boise River and a part of Boise State University. With a panoramic view of the city, parks and mountains, it enriches the lives of all its patrons. The product of a life-long dream of Harry W. Morrison, and championed by his widow, Velma, the Center opened its doors on April 7, 1984.

THE COLOR PURPLE- Broadway in Boise

Directed by Gary Griffin, THE COLOR PURPLE is adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Grammy Award winners Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray and choreography by Donald Byrd.

Robert Franz conducts the day starting with a galactic family concert of memorable STAR WARS music where costumes are welcome and ending with John Williams' masterworks from Hollywood screen favorites.

THE NUTCRACKER- Ballet Idaho

Ballet Idaho continues the beloved holiday tradition of the family classic The Nutcracker.

The choreography by Artistic Director, Peter Anastos, celebrates the season in dazzling fashion -- a joyful and elegant Holiday Party, a Christmas Garland Dance for the children, a magical mechanical mouse, Clara's marvelous life-size Nutcracker Doll and the growing Christmas Tree all make Act I truly out of the ordinary, unlike any you have seen before. Imagine the Snow Scene alive with sparkle as the beautiful Snow King and Queen lead their dancing Snowflakes through a beautiful wintry night.

In Act II, Clara arrives in The Land of Sweets and is delightfully entertained by Spanish Chocolate, Chinese Tea, Arabian Coffee, Russian Nougat, French Marzipan, Salt Water Taffy Sailors and the exquisite Dewdrop Fairy, who leads the Waltz of the Flowers. Lastly, the Sugarplum Fairy and her Cavalier dance a classical pas de deux, followed by the exhilarating Finale for all the Sweets.

This dazzling production will feature beautiful and original scenery and costumes by award-winning New York Designer, A. Christina Gianinni. Her work for the Joffrey Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, the Broadway stage, Television and Film is acclaimed throughout the country.
