Emily Short

Emily Short is the Department Manager of the Education Policy & Leadership Department at Southern Methodist University (SMU). She previously worked as the Grant Program Specialist in SMU's Research in Mathematics Education unit and taught high school English for six years. Emily is a lifelong learner who is passionate about remaining in the field of education. She attended University of Kentucky for her BA in Secondary English Education and a minor in Communications. She then attended The Ohio State University for her MA in Education, specializing in Integrated Language Arts.

Over the course of Emily’s schooling and professional career, her love for writing and reading has continuously deepened. She enjoys writing sincerely about her own life and the situations that have influenced who she is. Her favorite genres to read are historical fiction and nonfiction. Both of these genres lend themselves to the portrayal of the raw human experience. Emily believes her passion for writing and reading the truth lends itself to her love for theatre—a place where stories, true or not, feel real.

Emily also enjoys spending time listening to live music, exercising, trying new foods, and spending time with her friends and family. She is excited to further explore the Dallas theatre scene and share her experiences with her audience.
