Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) announces its 2018 spring programme featuring five career-spanning monographic surveys of internationally-recognized artists who have made pioneering contributions to contemporary art.
SAF's spring initiatives also include the foundation's annual March Meeting-an annual convening to consider timely issues in contemporary art through talks and performances-and an exhibition launching SAF's new curator-in-residence programme.
The robust spring programming continues the foundation's commitment to providing an international platform for the exchange of ideas. SAF's spring 2018 programme includes:
Opening in February 2018:
- Mona Saudi: A major retrospective of over five decades of the artist's explorations in growth, fertility and modern form.
- A Tripoli Agreement: An exhibition launching the new Air Arabia Curator-in-Residence programme with 2018 curator-in-residence Renan Laru-an.
Opening in March 2018:
- March Meeting 2018: A series of talks, installations and performances exploring resistance through 'organising' as a primary act of and condition for artistic production. Presentations will include SAF co-commissions from Naeem Mohaiemen and Wael Shawky, and video by Halil Atindere from SAF's permanent collection.
- Latif Al Ani: An exhibition of over two decades of work by the celebrated photographer who was among the first to capture cosmopolitan life in Iraq from the 1950s to '70s.
- Anna Boghiguian: The first major retrospective to date of the multimedia artist, spanning over four decades. Her work reflects her experiences of modern metropolitan life across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
- Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim: Bringing together painting, drawing, sculpture, installation and documentation of his explorations into land art, the exhibition will trace the leading UAE artist's practice and enduring influence on contemporary art.
- Zineb Sedira: A major survey including three new commissions that engage geo-political histories of the recent past, presented alongside Sedira's best-known works.
