Philadelphia Contemporary Presents Edward Burtynsky: MEGARESOURCES

On May 31, Philadelphia Contemporary will present Megaresources, an exhibition of photography by Edward Burtynsky, at Atelier FAS Gallery.
Our dependence on natural resources like coal, steel, and stone prompt a demand for large quantities to be produced on a massive scale. Through the lens of Edward Burtynsky we are able to examine the magnitude of these human-driven operations, and the gradual, yet total, reconfigurations of natural landscapes that result. In the photographs included in this exhibition, minerals and metals are unearthed, accumulated, and distributed, both as solids and liquids. The result is a fascinating window into the timescales and geographies of the raw materials that make up our everyday lives.
The show is preceded by an artist talk at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University on April 3, 2019 at 5:30 PM.
Photographs in the exhibition are provided courtesy of the artist and Hall Art Foundation.
