The Boy Detective Fails
Music and lyrics by Adam Gwon, book by Joe Meno; adapted from the novel by Joe Meno
After a childhood full of wonder, Billy Argo, boy detective, faces a mystery he can't comprehend: the shocking death of his younger sister and crime-solving partner, Caroline. Ten years later, 30-year-old Billy returns to his hometown determined to solve the mystery and right old wrongs-but what he discovers instead is a world full of unimaginable strangeness, beauty and love. Featuring Liz Callaway and others.
The Suicide
Music by Simon Gray, lyrics by Raymond Bokhour, book by David Bridel; adapted from the play by Nikolai Erdman
In this wacky original musical comedy set in Stalin's brutal Soviet Union, Semyon, an unemployed grumbler, becomes convinced that suicide is his ticket to fame and glory. Before long, friends and neighbors are plotting to exploit his impending death for fun and profit, and while they're at it, topple an entire regime. The story is based on a 1928 farce by Nikolai Erdman. Stalin hated it, banned it and sent its author to a Siberian labor camp for twenty years. Featuring Raymond Bokhour.
The event will be hosted by Tony Award nominee Liz Callaway on September 26 at 7:30pm in Kaufman Center's Merkin Concert Hall. For more information, visit the Kaufman Center website at kaufman-center.org/merkin-concert-hall.
