Independent singer-songwriter Abby Ahmad will celebrate the release of Curriculum, her second full-length CD, with four weeks of performances at The Living Room. Beginning on April 5th and continuing every Monday night at 8:00 PM in April, Ahmad will bring her hypnotic melodies and thought-provoking lyrics to the Living Room stage.
Counting Nina Simone, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin among her influences, Ahmad bridges genres of folk-rock, blues, and alternative. Emotionally-charged and sultry, Ahmad's arresting voice is reminiscent of artists like Shawn Colvin and Patty Griffin while her percussive guitar style captivates and challenges her audiences..Curriculum, the follow-up to Ahmad's acclaimed debut, The Rearview, marks a metaphoric and musical evolution for the 27-year old songwriter. Ahmad, a native of Wilkes-Barre, PA, first picked up a guitar at age 10 and, by 15, was already performing her original songs at coffeehouses and dive bars around town. Her musical career really started picking up steam while she was a student at the University of Pittsburgh, where she quickly found a following. After completing her degree in Theatre Arts, the songstress made the bold decision to move to New York City. Inspired by the thrilling challenges of being an emerging musician in the New York music scene, Ahmad composed Curriculum's ten poignant songs, documenting her musical and personal path to independence.Videos
