5 Broadway Shows Close This Weekend

This weekend, June 28-29, 2025, Broadway says goodbye to five productions. Glengarry Glen Ross takes its final bow at the Palace Theatre following 23 previews and 104 regular performances; The Picture of Dorian Gray plays its final performance at the Music Box Theatre after 15 previews and 98 regular performances; Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends will conclude its limited run at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre following 14 previews and 95 regular performances; Dead Outlaw wraps up at the Longacre Theatre following 14 previews and 73 regular performances; and Real Women Have Curves will close at the James Earl Jones Theatre after 31 previews and 73 regular performances.

The Palace will soon be home to Beetlejuice, the Music Box to Art, and the Friedman to Punch. The other venues do not yet have new tenants.

David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize & New York Drama Critics' Circle-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross officially opened Monday, March 31, 2025 at The Palace Theatre. The drama is set in a cutthroat Chicago real estate office where four salespeople compete to sell mostly worthless properties to unwitting customers. Whoever sells the most wins a car; whoever sells the least is out of a job – a ruthless environment where each character will do anything to come out on top. 

Glengarry Glen Ross stars Academy Award, Emmy, SAG, Golden Globe, BAFTA & Critics Choice Award-Winner Kieran Culkin as “Richard Roma”,  Emmy, SAG & Critics Choice Award-Winner & Golden Globe and 2025 Tony Award Nominee Bob Odenkirk as “Shelley Levene”,  making his Broadway debut, Emmy & Grammy Award Nominee Bill Burr as “Dave Moss”, making his Broadway debut, Grammy Award-Winner and Academy Award-Nominee Michael McKean  as “George Aaronow“, Donald Webber, Jr. as “John Williamson”, Howard W. Overshown as “Baylen” and SAG Award Nominee John Pirruccello as “James Lingk” making his Broadway debut.

The Sydney Theatre Company production of The Picture of Dorian Gray, starring Emmy and Olivier Award winner Sarah Snook, in a new adaptation written and directed by Kip Williams, opened on March 27, 2025 at the Music Box Theatre.

The Tony winner made her Broadway debut playing 26 characters in this adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s only novel. Williams’ interpretation of Wilde’s tale of beauty, excess, and a deal with the devil brings a striking resonance in our current era, holding a mirror to 21st century society’s narcissistic obsession with youth.

Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends is directed by Matthew Bourne, with artistic consultant Julia McKenzie, and choreographed by Stephen Mear.

Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends stars two-time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, and also includes Jacob Dickey, Kevin Earley, Jasmine Forsberg, Kate Jennings Grant, Bonnie Langford, Tony Award winner Beth Leavel, two-time Tony Award nominee Gavin Lee, multiple Olivier Award nominee Jason Pennycooke, two-time Olivier Award winner Joanna Riding, Jeremy Secomb, Kyle Selig, Maria Wirries, and Daniel Yearwood. The company also includes Paige Faure, Alexa Lopez, Greg Mills and Peter Neureuther. 

Real Women Have Curves features direction & choreography by Tony and Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo, music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning artist Joy Huerta and composer/lyricist Benjamin Velez, book by Lisa Loomer with Nell Benjamin, and music supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo.

Ana Garcia dreams of flying away from East Los Angeles. But when her family receives a make-or-break order for 200 dresses, Ana finds herself juggling her own ambitions, her mother’s expectations, and a community of women all trying to make it work against the odds.

The musical stars Broadway newcomer Tatianna Córdoba as ambitious high school senior Ana, film and television actress Justina Machado as Carmen, Ana’s hardworking mother who imagines a traditional life for her daughter, Florencia Cuenca as Estela, Shelby Acosta  as Prima Flaca, Carla Jimenez as Pancha, Aline Mayagoitia as Itzel, Mauricio Mendoza as Raúl, Mason Reeves as Henry, Jennifer Sánchez as Rosalí, Sandra Valls as Prima Fulvia, along with Ariana Burks, Quincy Hampton, Zeus Mendoza, Claudia Mulet, Christopher M. Ramirez, Monica Tulia Ramirez, Shadia Fairuz, Elisa Galindez, and Omar Madden.

Dead Outlaw opened at the Longacre Theatre on Sunday, April 27. The musical features music and lyrics by David Yazbek and Erik Della Penna, a book by Itamar Moses, and direction by David Cromer. 

Dead Outlaw is the darkly hilarious and wildly inventive musical about the bizarre true story of outlaw turned-corpse-turned-celebrity Elmer McCurdy. As Elmer’s body finds even more outlandish adventures in death than it could have ever hoped for in life, the show explores fame, failure, and the meaning – or, utter meaninglessness – of legacy. Dying is no reason to stop living life to its fullest.

The Broadway cast of Dead Outlaw includes 2025 Tony Award nominee Andrew Durand as Elmer McCurdy, 2025 Tony Award nominee Jeb Brown as Band Leader/Jarrett, Eddie Cooper as Coroner Johnson, Dashiell Eaves as Louis/Charles Patterson, 2025 Tony Award nominee Julia Knitel as Helen/Maggie, Ken Marks as George, Trent Saunders as Andy Payne, Thom Sesma as Coroner Noguchi, with Emily Fink, Justin Gregory Lopez, Noah Plomgren, Max Sangerman, Scott Stangland, and Graham Stevens as understudies.
