David Carter of THE MISER at The Oasis Theatre Company
by Zoe Burke - March 22, 2019
If a singer/actor/dancer is considered a triple threat, New Mexico transplant David Carter is more like a quintuple threat. In addition to being the technical director at the Santa Fe Playhouse and a huge advocate for making the arts (in particular, performing arts) accessible for all, he translated, served as a dramaturg for, and is currently performing in The Oasis Theatre Company's production of Moliere's The Miser. I was able to pick his brain about his theatrical experience, his translation process, and some other artistic endeavors he currently has in the works.
BWW Review: SHREK: THE MUSICAL at Albuquerque Little Theatre
by Jackie Camborde - March 21, 2019
It's hard to be an ogre - the whole world fears your green skin and gruff exterior, you're banished to live in a smelly swamp, and now, to top things off, the ruler of Duloc has thrown a whole bunch of fairytale freaks your way to crowd your space. What's an ogre to do? Such is the predicament that begins SHREK: The Musical, playing now through March 31 at Albuquerque Little Theater.

When a group of actors with a passion for the classics (who already have a plan for a theater) are presented with the opportunity to present outdoor Shakespeare in what is arguably one of the loveliest venues in Santa Fe, they just have to go for it; even if it means putting together a large scale production of one of Shakespeare's most well known and beloved works in fewer than six months.

BWW Review: HIDDEN TREASURE: A GEORGIAN IMMIGRANT'S STORY at Ironweed Productions
by Zoe Burke - March 10, 2019
Towards the end of her one woman show, Hidden Treasure: A Georgian Immigrant's Story, Ketevan Kharshiladze Ussery speaks about a workplace conflict. She details her anger and frustration with the given situation, and then, after a realization, about attaining peace. 'This is theatre,' she simply says of the conflict, and indeed, life, and with that new perspective, proceeds on. Though Ms. Ussery's show details her process of moving from Georgia to the states, and eventually El Rito, New Mexico, the way in which she describes her experiences - through the lens of someone who has dedicated their life to the theatre - is simple proof that the human experience transcends national borders.

SISTER'S EASTER CATECHISM Comes To Popejoy Hall
by BWW News Desk - March 07, 2019
The latest project of the Late Night Catechism series, Sister's Easter Catechism: Will My Bunny Go to Heaven? takes the Popejoy stage, Sunday, April 7 at 3:00pm. This one-woman show features Sister, a forthright nun, during her classroom lesson about the Easter Holiday. She covers questions from "Why does Lent exist?" to "Do animals really go to heaven?" In this uproarious production, audience members become her classroom pupils and are tested on their Easter knowledge. Premiering in May 1993, Late Night Catechism served as a fundraising effort after the eradication of Social Security for nuns in the Catholic Church. Today, with three other productions, Sister's Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi's Gold, Sister Strikes Again!: Late Night Catechism 2 and 'Til Death Do Us Part: Late Night Catechism 3 the production brings a facetious explanation for everything pious. Don't be surprised if your entire world is shattered at the wag of Sister's index finger. Other shows include Sister Rolls the Dice and Sister's Summer School Catechism: God Never Takes a Vacation!, as part of a Vegas series. Initially written by Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan, Late Night Catechism is the longest running show in Chicago history and the longest running one-woman comedy in off-Broadway history. It has raised funds for many groups and churches throughout Illinois, as well as other parishes throughout the nation and globally. Sister's Easter Catechism has brought insight to the significance of the Vernal Holiday, since its debut in March of 2011, with Maripat Donovan leading the Easter egg hunt as Sister. With rewards for good behavior and chock-full of fun and games, this production will leave you duly prepared for your Easter Holiday celebrations. The Easter show is the third to visit Popejoy, following both Late Night Catechism and Sister's Christmas Catechism. Classroom participation is a must, so be sure to bring your burning questions and inquiring minds! Proceeds earned during the show will directly benefit the School Sisters of St. Francis at Monocacy Manor in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.Tickets for Sister's Easter Catechism are on sale for $59, $45, $35, and $25.Tickets may be purchased at the UNM Ticket Offices located at the Dreamstyle Arena (The Pit) or at the UNM Bookstore.
