Offical Announcement: Robert Goulet Joins Cast of La Cage Aux Folles

The producers of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES announced today that legendary Broadway star Robert Goulet is confirmed to join the cast of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. The Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winning actor will replace Daniel Davis in the role of Georges mid-April (exact date TBD) at Broadway's Marquis Theatre. Understudy John Hillner will assume the role for the interim performances.

Mr. Goulet took Broadway by storm with his historic debut originating the role of Sir Lancelot in Camelot in 1960 opposite Richard Burton and Julie Andrews and won a Tony Award in 1968 for Best Actor in a Musical for The Happy Time. His most recent Broadway credits include Camelot in 1993, this time playing King Arthur and Moon Over Buffalo in 1995 (complete bio attached). In a current feature in the April 2005 issue of Vanity Fair, Mr. Goulet is credited with having "a career that has taken him from musical-theatre superstar to cult phenomenon."

Daniel Davis, who originated the role of Georges in this production, played his final performance on Sunday, March 27.

With a Tony-winning score by Jerry Herman and a Tony-winning book by Harvey Fierstein, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is directed by Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. The production also stars Tony Award winner Gary Beach as Albin.

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES opened Thursday, December 9, 2004, at Broadway's Marquis Theatre (1535 Broadway at 46th Street) and is produced by James L. Nederlander, Clear Channel Entertainment, Kenneth Greenblatt, Terry Allen Kramer, and Martin Richards.

Mr. Goulet is a spokesman for the American Cancer Society and periodically gives lectures on Cancer Awareness, Prevention and Early Detection. He is a father of three children; sons Christopher and Michael, and daughter Nicolette, who is the mother of his grandson Jordan, Gerard, and Solange. He married Macedonian-Yugoslavian-born Vera Chochorovska Novak in 1982. Vera runs their companies and is also his business manager.
