Josie Field and Laurie Levine

The blues-infused vocal-rock of Josie Field connects with the intimate folk, country styles of Laurie Levine in TIGERLILY to create a unique and intimate musical experience. Dubbed the 'Collaboration of the Year', and winners of the Standard Bank Ovation award at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 2014, these two Johannesburg-based singer-songwriters have created a show that has gone from strength to strength over the last three years.

Following a string of successful national tours and the development of their well-loved unique musical partnership, the singer-songwriters decided to take their collaboration to the next level by releasing their first co-written album consisting of a collection of brand new original material. The first of its kind for two female South African singer-songwriters, TIGERLILY is a rich blend of Field's deep, soulful blues tones with Levine's velvet honey country inflections, with a strong focus on their elegant harmonies. After 16 years experience, nine albums and a dozen SAMA nominations between them, these songwriters have honed their craft on TIGERLILY with eleven beautifully constructed and catchy songs. Ranging from heartfelt folk melodies to sassy, soulful and blues textured tracks, the album's organic production allows the songs to breathe. The combination of earthy acoustic instruments such as banjo and ukulele with electric instruments such as pedal steel and dobro, solidify the duo's new signature sound.

Field and Levine will be launching the album with a nationwide tour from November through January. They will be performing just under 30 shows in a variety of venues in six provinces. The show will feature a new set list comprising of the joint body of co-written work from the new album, along with some old favourites from previous tours.

TIGERLILY will be performed at the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre on 9 - 10 June at 21:00, with tickets costing R110 - R120. Bookings can be made online at the Alexander Bar website or purchased at the bar. For telephone bookings and enquiries, call 021 300 1652.
