Rehearsals are now underway for the first Broadway revival of the American comedy Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch by legendary Ossie Davis will officially open on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at The Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th St.). Previews will begin on Thursday, September 7.

AENY - Spanish Artists in New York (Artistic Director Ignacio García-Bustelo) presented the New York premiere of Alberto Conejero’s The Dark Stone, a pulsing story of difference and connection set against the turmoil of Spain’s Civil War (Through October 2 at Repertorio Español, 138 E 27th St; in English with Spanish subtitles). Tras un éxito rotundo en sus representaciones, el musical volvió el 8 de junio para terminar sus funciones el próximo día 21. Antes de que baje el telón, el equipo de BroadwayWorld se ha colado entre bambalinas para conocer todos los entresijos del musical que tanto ha cautivado al público español.

Según informa el diario ABC Mario Gas se despide del Teatro Español tras ocho años al frente. Aunque aún no se ha realizado el anuncio oficial ABC asegura que el cambio de gobierno en el Ayuntamiento de Madrid, que gestiona el teatro, y el nombramiento de Natalio Grueso como director de Programación de Artes Escénicas del Ayuntamiento de Madrid han acelerado la salida del director de origen uruguayo.

El fotógrafo madrileño Sergio Parra ha recopilado su trabajo en los camerinos en una exposición que desde hoy puede visitarse en el Teatro Español y sus alrededores.En la plaza de Santa Ana, se han expuesto 29 de las 51 imágenes en blanco y negro que forman parte de la exposición, el resto se encuentran en el interior. Lo que contienen estas instantáneas es una interesante forma de acercar al público esos momentos íntimos previos a la salida al escenario, cuando la persona se transforma en el personaje.

The sold-out house was privy to performances from Closer Than Ever (with Lynne Wintersteller, Patrick Brady & Bob Renino), Pete 'n Keely (with George Dvorsky), and her first cabaret ventures (with Billy Stritch, Sharon Montgomery, Lena Koutrakos, Jessica Wright & Jim Caruso).
