STAGE TUBE: On This Day for 5/1/15- THE DROWSY CHAPERONESTAGE TUBE: On This Day for 5/1/15- THE DROWSY CHAPERONE
by Stage Tube - May 1, 2015

Today in 2002, The Drowsy Chaperone opened at the Marquis Theatre, where it ran for 674 performances. The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical with book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. It is a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. The story concerns a middle-aged, antisocial musical theatre fan; as he plays the record of his favorite musical, the (fictional) 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone, the show comes to life onstage as he wryly comments on the music, story, and actors. The show won the Tony Award for Best Book and Best Score. The show has had major productions in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, London, and Japan, as well as two North American tours. (more...)

Known for its challenging music and intricate lyrics, written masterfully by musical theatre icon, Stephen Sondheim, INTO THE WOODS is a staple among theaters across the country. With nearly two dozen famous fairy tale characters, the show challenges audiences to think beyond 'happily ever after,' and to be careful what you wish for along the way.
