WaterTower Theatre Announces Details for the New Summer Performing Arts Conservatory

WaterTower Theatre Artistic Director Joanie Schultz, and Managing Director Greg Patterson today announced details of the 2017 Summer Performing Arts Conservatory.  In past years, the Conservatory for children and teens, held at the Addison Theatre Centre, was structured for students to present a fully-realized performance of a published play or musical at the end of the two-week program.  In the new restructured two-week Conservatory, students will be cultivating their skills in three intensive courses, each led by a different professional theatre artist. This training will offer a more well-rounded experience, and will provide the students with a strong artistic foundation that can be used in the classroom or on the professional stage. The students will also gain valuable interpersonal communication skills that will benefit their day-to-day lives. The Conservatory will culminate in a performance showcase for friends and family focused on utilizing the skills and crafts learned over the two-week program.  (more...)

BWW Review: LA's NEXT GREAT STAGE STAR 2017 Presented by Princess Cruises a Tremendous Success

On Sunday, February 19 LA's Next Great Stage Star 2017 Presented by Princess Cruises came to an uber exciting conclusion at the Colony Theatre. After a very entertaining 90-minute program in which the 18 contestants gave 150% to their uptempo songs from Broadway shows, thirteen contestants were eliminated and the top five finalists selected during the first intermission. It was then decided, like the last two years from the consensus of the judges, to add a sixth contestant. Then each of the six proceeded to perform a second number after which the distinguished panel of 18 judges made the final decision during the second intermission. Musical director par excellence Richard Berent accompanied at the piano throughout the three hour show. BWW Interviews: Touring Veteran Reaches Milestone Performance In 42ND STREET

Most actors receive a standard show contract for around 12 months, but that doesn't mean every actor hangs up their shoes and immediately walks into another show. In fact, not only do some actors extend their contracts, but some make an entire career out of an individual credit. Rob Ouellette, who is currently playing pianist Oscar and a member of the tap-dancing ensemble of the 42nd STREET national tour is about to shuffle into his 1,000th performance with the show on February 16th, 2017, so we caught up with him about his experience. Not only has Rob danced his way through six different companies of the musical, but he's performed several variations of the show's choreography, has worked three times with original book writer and director Mark Bramble, as well as with choreography icons Randy Skinner, Kelli Barclay, and Rick Conant, among others.
