by Casey Mink - Jan 20, 2017

For her two-show debut engagement at Feinstein's/54 Below, the first of which took place on January 11, Tracie Thoms's set list was surprisingly short. In fact, on paper, it looked as though the concert might not even fill an entire hour. It speaks, then, to her performative nature as an equal parts entertainer-singer, that the show actually lasted for a full 90 minutes. (more...)

BWW Review: South Coast Repertory's Quirky Play THE ROOMMATE Shakes Things Up
by Michael L. Quintos - Jan 20, 2017

Quirky and surprisingly unexpected, playwright Jen Silverman explores a delightfully fresh and edgy new take on the formulaic 'opposite personalities that live together' paradigm in the new dark comedy THE ROOMMATE, now continuing its West Coast premiere performances at Orange County's Tony Award-winning regional theater South Coast Repertory through January 22 in Costa Mesa. Consistently winsome and, at times, touchingly relatable, the play unveils two very complex, rather dysfunctional individuals you still ultimately want to root for and watch blossom into better people as we watch them long to transform their lives. BWW Review: PLAZA SUITE at Little Theatre Of Mechanicsburg
by Allison Rambler - Jan 20, 2017

The Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg sits plainly on the side of a small road in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, unassuming to all those who pass by. It does not flaunt itself on flashing advertisements or a grandiose outward facade, and this in fact adds to the effortless charm that meets a theatre-goer as Soon as they step through the door. But while the stage itself may be lacking in size, the performances presented there compensate for space with an abundance of talent. While the reviewer has only been privilege to one show at this establishment thus far, she is glad that she was treated to the vastly entertaining humor of PLAZA SUITE by Neil Simon. (more...)

A Rebel Reborn: Samuel Adams Flagship IPA Evolves
by BWW News Desk - Jan 19, 2017

For the first time, the brewers at Sam Adams have completely reformulated a popular flagship beer: Rebel IPA. After more than four years, the brewers undertook what they called "Project Lupulus," an experiment that takes advantage of hops that were not readily available or have been newly cultivated since Rebel IPA first launched in 2014. As part of this project, the brewers collaborated, starting in 2013, with a hop breeder in Yakima Valley, WA to create a new hop variety proprietary and exclusive to Sam Adams called HBC 566. After months of experimenting with dozens of trial batches at the Boston Brewery, the brewers are now ready to release the new Rebel IPA recipe which is brewed with HBC 566 and another new experimental hop variety for bittering, HBC 682. Rebel IPA now has a more intense juicy, tropical and citrus flavor supported by a leaner body and a crisp, clean finish to optimize the hop character. (more...)
